Places to meet people/make friends in Washington DC?

I am new to the area, cannot legally work (F2 visa) and do not know any one. I find it hard to make friends here, any suggestions? (ie places to volunteer, hang out etc.)

Restaurants are a great place. Or try and volunteer at a local hosp? Go for a bike ride, or to a coffee shop? Here is a link to help you find some places that may suit your fancy.

Check out http://www.MeetIn.org./ there is a Washington, DC chapter with thousands of members.

It's a free networking site. People come up with ideas for events and invite other members to go along. For example, somebody might suggest going to a movie, restaurant or museum. You can see who is attending and take a look at their profiles before you sign up to go. That way you can find people close to your age and with similar interests. And, you can meet new people to hang out with!

The only costs are whatever the activity costs (movie ticket, meal, etc).

I've met most of my friends in jail. Politicians, lobbiest, weird'o's, they are all regulars and good people

Join a church I recomend Mclean Bible Church its huge and its a great way to meet people.

I know you guys arent going to like this answer but I moved to DC in October and it is EXTREMELY hard to meet people. I have tried craigslist, meet up, professional organizations in DC, meet in, the internet, bars, clubs, and I dont know if its that people here are soooo concerned with higher education (many are getting their MBA's) , their high powered careers, or their families but people seem to be in their own clique....It's hard, but I have faith eventually I will make some friends here.. Best of LUCK!

Go to RFD

Check out the kickball leagues. The games aren't serious and are more about socializing/drinking than the actual sport.
