How is UBC?

Hey I am in Grade 12 wanting to go to UBC for Business... If you go here or know anyone can you tell me what you like about it and what you don't like about it? Could you tell me a bit about Vancouver too?

Thanks!

I didn't attend UBC, so I can't tell you about the program, but the campus is very nice. UBC has a very good academic reputation, so having an undergrad degree from UBC would open doors. My understanding is the UBC has decent bus service, including express buses. The campus is right on the western edge of the penninsula which Vancouver is on, so it gets ocean-breezes and slightly milder climate than further east into the city and beyond.

The UBC area has several beaches around it - including Wreck beach (a nudist beach) which can be a distraction to studies (grin).

Vancouver is quite pricey. The cost of housing (to buy or to rent) is expensive. It rains *a lot* in Vancouver and the surrounding areas. While we have had snowfalls lately, they are generally short-lived and rather soggy. When it snows, don't expect to get anywhere fast, as most Vancouver drivers go into panic mode when the first snowflake falls.

I hope this helps! Good luck on your decision!

UBC is one of the three best schools in the country, so you won't go wrong there. The city of Vancouver is a real gem, very multicultural and close to many outdoor recreation opportunities -- you can hike, kayak and ski all in one day with little trouble. Yes, it isn't cheap to live there, but that's the price for living in paradise. Incidentally, the snow can be quite wet/slippery when it falls, which is why it appears as if the drivers "panic" -- not actually the case for most drivers. Luckily, snow tends not to be all the common. And, yes, it rains a fair bit, but less than Seattle, for instance. In return, flowers bloom much earlier than most of the rest of the country and it's green throughout the year -- what could be better?
