Driving to Canada from Seattle. Do I need to vring my passport?

I will rent a car in Seattle and drive to Canada to visit. Do I need my passport or driver liscense is good enough?
What else document should I prepare?
Thank you.

Assuming you are a US Citizen then all you require is an authorized government photo ID such as your Driver's License and your birth certificate (it has to be officially issued of course). However if you are not a US Citizen then you will require your passport and, depending on the country you are from, a visa.

If you were not born in the US but are a US citizen then you will also need your citizenship card. If you have a passport bring it, it is the easisest form of ID and will be all you need, other than your Driver's License of course since you are driving.

I think you should use your passport whether you need to or not. Its easier than a whole bundle of other stuff.

You won't NEED your passport, but it couldn't hurt.

Hi there. I strongly recommend for you to bring your passport with you. If you do not have a passport, you will have to use your certified birth certificate or certification of citizenship if you were naturalized USC. In order to re-enter the US, you need to present them to prove that you are a US Citizen.

The requirements now are that you must have a photo I.D. and proof of citizenship, ke a birth certificate...OR... a passport. So your passport will be firne. you cannot travel with just the photo I.D. See site below and read top alf of the page carefully for current info.
