Does anyone know how long it would take to drive form saskatoon,SK to vancouver, BC? |
me and my sisters are planning on driving to vancouver in july. if the drive is more that 12 hours what is a good place to stop and spend the night? try mapquest.com Its an 18 hour drive with no stopping. If you stop for food, gas, etc. I would say about 20 hours or so. You could stop in Edmonton but it's a little less than halfway. Maybe a good stop would be in a smaller place like Jasper, which is close to halfway. There's quite a few cute little hotels and inns there and the scenery is really beautiful. If you are leaving Saskatoon heading west, you are 5 hours from Edmonton, another 4 1/2 hours to Jasper. If you plan on taking 2 days to do the drive, from Jasper to Kamloops is a little over 6 hours, taking the Cocqualla to Hope is another 2 hours and another 2 hours into Vancouver. Coming back home, you can change your route some and go through Calgary to Regina then head north or from Kamloops take the TCH to Lake Louise, then the Columbia Icefield Parkway north to Jasper to re connect to the Yellowhead. Nice trip, watch for elk and mountain sheep as you near Jasper. That would be an awesome trip. You have two ways you could go. I think going through Calgary and taking hiway #1 would be more scenic than going through Edmonton and taking the Yellowhead through Jasper although it would be awesome to go to Van one way and come back the other. I think both ways take about the same time and both hiways end up at Kamloops. So if you decide to go through Calgary on the way there you should get to Calgary in about 5 to 6 hours. Fuel is cheaper in Calgary so good idea to top up there. Its about 3 hours to Golden B.C. Good place to grab a room since you will have about 9 hours under your belt by now and there are lots of places to eat and room are plentifull there as well and besides you will be about half way to Vancouver which will be about another 8 hours from Golden there again depending on which way you decide to go from Kamloops. Have a great trip. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would want to do this drive. But if you do it, just a word of caution: Please don't drive from Alberta/BC border into BC when you are tired. The roads are very dangerous in some spots and you need to be well rested before you set out on that part of the drive. Take your time and enjoy the scenery! Plan for 24 hours. Drive straight through to Edsen, stay there it's cheaper than Jasper and you don't have to pay for overnight in the park, You should be able to make Van, mid to late afternoon the next day. Alive. Last time I drove from Saskatoon to Vancouver (1994), we left Saskatoon 9 a.m. from the Superstore in Confederation Park arrived in North Surrey, BC the next day at about 3 p.m. We stopped in Banff for something to eat and buy some travelling 'supplies' (1 hour) and spent the night in Revelstoke. oh I drive from Manitoba to BC at least once a year, days in are always the nicest hotels to stay at because there predictalbe, and never that grundgy, and you get free breakfasts. Yes it would take a little longer then 12 hours, or at least it does for us but thats because kids are in the car... the mountains are what slow you down tho. Hope I helped, Have fun! |
