Why Dubai Declares "National Holiday" For Bush Visit?

Is it so it reduce traffic, so bush can go around the city without see the ugly side of the traffic of the city? Do Dubai people pleased that they don't had to go to work because Bush a foreign president visit to their city?

The government declared Monday a national holiday and shut down many main roads and bridges, due to security reasons and threat to President from Iran.
And Impacts were pathatic

Dubai's economy may have suffered a loss of more than Dh432 million as a result of the shutdown caused by US President George W. Bush's visit, according to estimates based on the emirate's gross domestic product.

Roadblocks and mass confusion cause hours of traffic misery

there are very few ugly sides to dubai this is usually done for protection purposes

That's the difference between a monarchy and a democratic republic.

The U.S. government has to at least PRETEND to care what the people think. A monarchy does whatever it wants.

Dubai is the utmost exquisitly beatuiful man built city yet to date and still under construction it is simply the american Dream unfortunatley built in the arab world. They made it a national holiday to prevent pepole from sticking around and having a traficc jammed and Because they do not want to see pepole around that visit and to avoid any unplaisant accident from pepole who do not like Bush and his visit. Since when american do like the arabs and vice versa??????????

Simply for protection and transit.

People who have ever had an American president visit, know they stop air traffic and close certain streets and of course, they have a police motorcade. With all visits to all locations, this is the general protocol. You can thank famous assassins for these measures.

Regardless of who a person is, no matter your opinion, they have a right to live and breath and walk the earth just like any common man. It is how we express our passions in and for life that we effect other people.

So, I choose to educate myself and not allow the 'popular belief' become my opinion.

Dubai government wants nothing to happen bad, but the result was really pathetic. People suffered a lot.
Just for the sake of one man - who ever he may be - what the Dubai gov did was not justice.
Why there was no holiday in Abu DHabi? Why there was no holiday in other countries where this man visited?
Net result was like Dubai Gov bowed in front of this man and lost its reputation.

Practical purposes. Traffic is already terrible in Dubai and security should be tight! There are only 3 roads that leads to Jebel Ali and further. Al Kahial Road and Sheik Sayed Roads are closed. What do you think we will do? Grab a camel and start walking in the desert going to the office? Come on! It is so practical.... no need to think further!

Tina, your comment I found very offensive. When George W Bush visited Abu Dhabi, we didn't get any holiday. And just because some Arabs do not like George W Bush, does not mean that Arabs do not like Americans. And vice versa. I know MANY people, of all ethnicities who do not like him at all.

Please, keep rasist comments to yourself.

And honestly, they probably gave a holiday to avoid what happened in Abu Dhabi: road blocks, mass traffic, etc. I would have liked a day off from school, but that's life.

for security issues .. and yes to reduce traffic jams when he came .. although this never happened !!

sometimes in Abu Dhabi the road is temp closed .. but only when a there is a presidential route is passing by ..

and i didn't like how this went .. hated that Dubai was off just because of bush ..

but I'll say for whomever didn't like what happens in Dubai then leave it .. leave the whole country if you don't like it here .. go weep in your country !!

we have no problem with all americans all over the world .. its just this man i really hate that i even find him ugly disgusting

otherwise .. i have good american friends ..
