Dear UAE friends- Are Emirates good drivers?

When I am in Tehran, I always pray before leaving the house & go for a drive.

God Bless

I hope Emirates are better drivers.
Thanks for the answers.

Emiratis are good drivers, but like to speed. The bad thing is, you have more other Nationals driving than Emiratis. Watch out for the license plaids. The less numbers, the more wasta. Let them get in front of you and you'll be fine.

Most dangerous are the cab drivers and the drivers of small buses. Cab drivers are mostly Pakistanis who do know how to blow the horn and that's it. No signals, stopping in the middle of the road etc. They are changing lanes regardless. The same with the majority of Indinas (no offense, just the plane truth).

Driving in the UAE you will notice that hardly nobody make way for the police or the ambulance and when people want to cross the streets on a cross walk, no car will stop unless traffic is regulated by lights.

Talking bad about drivers, I should be fair and also talking about people trying to cross the highway. This happens. Highways are 4 lanes with a fence in the middle, but some workers (because the labour camps are located close) still crossing the highway and climbing over the fence.
Some people even jump in front of a car on purpose so the family back home can collect the blood money.

All together I just can advise you to drive carefully, watch out and keep praying.

Take care.

Sorry. Of course happy new year to you, too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cops are all over the place. Unmarked police cruiser show up from no where if you don't obey traffic signals, speed limit and so on.
Yes I did hear horror stories about driving in Iran. A friend of mine who is Iranian told me that during a wedding ceremony people were killed and injured in an accident while they were driving around town (don't know why they do that).
It's sickening..... what i heard.

What was that script hot jewel wrote? ....

welcome to uae first the roads are horrible too mush crowded & too much accidents

happy new year

I don't find them to be good or bad drivers. I usually pray while I'm driving and that entails me to take my eyes off the road so I don't really see other people driving. I found the drivers are nice ie. people do yell encouagment to me while I drive like "Are you a Brain Surgeon?" and I like that because it makes me feel smart!!

thee traffic laws are strict , so no one can violate them without getting punished.
the drivers cannot go fast bec the lanes are loaded with cars .
you will be safe due to these hampering factors .
so , drive without worry.

Well, the way it sounds you are probably prepared to go on the road in UAE....There are also very excellent drivers around here, but I have never seen so many bad drivers than here, whether they are Emiraties or foreigners I honestly don't care. Some people really think it is their natural right to speed with 180km/h through the city (if there isn't a traffic jam, that is) and give light signals and honk the horn at anyone who actually follows the speed limit. Then there are those who drive with 40km/h on the left lane holding up traffic. There are people overtaking from the right. People making (sudden) turns without signalling, people sticking to your back bumper and bullying others off the lane. People that drive without lights at night or with broken tail lights and brake lights, which makes it a challenge for the driver behind to brake on time.
Also there are people not paying propper atention to traffic because they are writing text messages or are talking on their moble without headset . And I must emphasize I don't know and don't care what nationality sits behind the wheel of these cars. But one gets used to all, except the excessive speeding and bullying, that should really be stopped by more traffic controlls, because it is really, really dangerous. Oh, and I agree with the poster above,: some pedestrians really seem to have a death wish, when they try to cross a highway with six lanes...I know there are very few pedestrian crossings, but with their behaviour they are not only endagering themselves but also everyone else who happens to drive that way and has to brake hard risking an accident. .
Oh and last but not least, I know it has little to do with the question, but I find it very important:
People living in the UAE: please buckle up your children in the car and put them in an appropriate car seat. A propper carseat has already saved many lives! Even if you think you can hold on to your child in the event of a crash, you will not be able, the forces that work then are too strong and serious injury could happen.

Well, when you talk about "Emirates", you're talking about huge no. of people. So saying that they are good drivers or bad, will not apply.

About locals, as H said, they are crazy about speed (not all, I'd to say). There was a recent incident where an entire family were killed coz of reckless driving of a local. There have been a lot of incident like that.

On the other side, I've seen locals who would give way to you and pass a smile. Sometime back, a local stopped his car and gave way to 20 vehicles when he saw the traffic was bad on the other road. He didn't bother about the guys where kept on honking behind him.

Another incident, where an indian guy had some prob with his car and he was pushing it alone to move it to the side, lot of passersby they just saw him and no one came to help. A local who saw it, stopped his car, helped that guy to take his car to the side, opened his car and checked what the problem was.

Some indians / pakis are bad drivers... some are good. Some incase you've accident with them, they'd actually come to fight with you. Some decent enough, would have a friendly talk till the cops arrive.

Though the balance is towards bad... but the no. of good decent drivers is NOT less.

i don't really believe in general judgment .. but from my personal experience with other countries driving method .. we're in heaven !!

speeding accidents .. yes ..
foolish accidents .. not often

just watch out when you're close to a taxi .. worst drivers !!
