Can I take a cooler full of beef steaks through customs in TCI? |
We always take a cooler of steaks and shrimp when traveling to the Bahamas with no problems, St Lucia we just have to be nice to customs, St Vincent no problem, but in December we are going to TCI and wanted to take steaks but don't want them confiscated at customs. Any one know the real deal? Thanks I hate to answer my own question but according to the people in TCI customs I talked to I can bring a cooler of steaks and shrimp. They suggested it would be much cheaper to bring our own. I'm not taking ground round but premium steaks that typically are not available in the islands. The shrimp will be fresh from South Carolina and I'm sure we'll try the local lobster. But the answer is that it is legal to bring a cooler in full of steaks. If you are referring to the Cayman Islands, they most likely will be confiscated as they are not an independent nation like the Bahamas, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent are. As a British colony, Britain is responsible for their immigration and customs regulations and with a thriving off-shore banking center, I am sure the government will not take any risks with meat from outside their jurisdiction. I would call the British consulate closest to you for advice on how to properly import meat into the colony. You might be allowed to do so with the proper license and fees. I'm pretty sure you can check-in the cooler. (not carryon) But to be sure check this site It will in all likelihood be confiscated at customs, although I've heard of people smuggling these things in when arriving by private plane. I wouldn't risk it. |
