How do I buy a house in another country?

Especially looking to buy in italy or the carribbean. like St. Thomas or St Croix.

The first step would be to research the property laws of the country in which you wish to purchase. Some countries give you automatic dual citizenship if you own property.

Next would be to research the demographics of the area and the property values. After you've established what you can afford, you can begin looking for an existing home or land to develop. In some areas of the Caribbean, undeveloped land can be unbelievably inexpensive, however you should also consider the costs incurred to develop it. Oceanfront is usually the most expensive.

Keep in mind which currency, whether USD, Lira, Pound, Euro, Jamaican Dollar, etc.. The exchange rate can make a difference.

I'd visit the area several times before I invest though. If you don't plan to live there then you will have to entrust someone to take care of the property.

You can also do an online search for your desired area's real estate companies to get a general idea of housing prices. GOOD LUCK!
