What do the Driving Licence colours mean in NSW Australia ?

And how do you identify a Silver and a Gold licence ?

Unrestricted licences are any licence other than a learner or provisional licence. The licence may be 1 Year (Silver or Magenta), 3
Year (Silver or Magenta) or 5 Year (Gold or Magenta).
Provisional P1 (Red) licences are provisional stage 1 licences
Provisional P2 (Red) licences are provisional stage 2 licences
National Heavy Vehicle Driver Licences (Magenta) are issued to holders of licence classes HR, HC and MC. (The NHVDL were
introduced to help ensure that one driver has only one licence and not holding multiple licences from different States or Territories.)
The NHVDL may be issued for 1,3 or 5 years.
Learner (Green) licences are issued to people learning to drive.

Q is - where is the Gold in Gold ? or is it Yellow ?

A Learners licence is green in color. P's are red in color for both your red p's and your green p's.

This is no longer a such thing as a silver licence. Any fully licenced driver gets a gold licence.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au will have more on this.

EDIT~ I got my full licence about 18months ago, the only option was a gold licence, no matter if it were for 1 yr or 5 yrs. They have got rid of the silver licence about 2 yrs ago. I had a 1 yr licence and it was gold and my current 5 yr licence is gold.

Magenta is a Heavy vehicle licence.

Yes, Gold = Yellow

i don't think they is any difference in colour on the licence, just the licence type. (learners have an L, red P drivers have P1, green p drivers have P2 etc) so it should have something on it, if not then it'll be on your account at the RTA, which you can access online

it's taken a bit of research (i was curious about this myself) and i have come up with this RTA glossary, it should help give you some idea. There are also magenta, red and green licences.

Green for Learners, P platers are red, Gold is a full licence and Heavy Vehicles are Magenta/Crimson. Silver was scrapped but used to be valid for 1 year and for people who had been suspended.
