Where is the best area in the Swansea for a group of lads to go drinking and clubbing? |
We are looking for somewhere more cosmopolitan less locally, Wind Street looks like it might be like this. Wind (w沫nd or wa瑟nd) Street is a historic street located in Swansea centre. It was once a busy street, a haunt of the poet Dylan Thomas and location of the well-known covered alleyway 'Salubrious Passage'. It became a backwater in the second half of the 20th century when the commercial centre of Swansea shifted. It boasts the highest concentration of listed buildings in Swansea.[1] Following redevelopment at the beginning of the 21st century it is now known for its unusually high density of large theme pubs and smaller privately owned bars, clubs and restaurants , including the long-established No-Sign Wine Bar and the The Olde Cross Keys Pub. It has developed into a haven for stag and hen parties and clubbers from all across the South Wales area and is pedestrianised on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights which can see crowd numbers swelling to well into the tens of thousands. 2007 saw the introduction of the multi-million pound Aspers Casino complex on the street which itself houses restaurants, bars and smaller clubs in addition to the casino itself. A number of well known restaurants such as [Frankie and Benny's], [TGI Fridays], [China China], [Jubo Raj] and many privately owned ones are also to be found. Wind Street is also significant because its name has an unusual pronunciation. It is pronounced not to rhyme with 'finned' or 'rescind', but rather with 'kind' or 'blind'. There is also a street in the nearby town of Neath with same name and pronunciation. It seems there is no definitive explanation for this pronunciation. The street does curve towards one end but not in any significant way. Nor is it clear that it is related to a word or pronunciation from the Welsh language. yup it is :) Definitely go to Wind Street - it is THE place to go! It is basically a street full of bars/clubs! There are also some on the Kingsway. Wind Street is the place to go in Swansea. the pubs are open till 2 & there are also loads of clubs on the Kingsway such as jumpin Jacks, escape, flares & a few others as well. Pentre Mawr road and onto Vivian street down the Neath till the A483, since down New Curt road until Strand Row, left into Vickers, and thru the marsh till arriving at Devil鈥檚 Point and the Green Man Acre Taverna.
