Transportation in Cape Town?

How safe are the bus lines? Do they only stay in Cape Town proper? Or do any of the buses go to Joe Slovo Park or out to the townships? Are there monthly passes available? How much do they cost? How/where can you buy them?

There are definitely buses that go out of the suburbs. Do you mean Joe Slovo near Langa?

Cost varies depending on routes and destinations. You need to find out what's applicable for you.

On average a monthly pass will cost about R180, I believe.

Your best bet is to rent a car. You do not want to get stuck in an unfamiliar area or possible dangerous situation.

I do not recommend using the busses. They are NOTHING like the ones you are used to. Get a rent a car. It is the cheapest, safest and fastest way around Cape Town. Make sure you get a Chev, not a BMW or a GOLF as they are hijack able. We even have fuel attendants who will pump your fuel for you!

You can then look for tour guide to take you to the tourist places. Or even a tour bus, but make sure it is an official tour bus to be safe.
