Is seychelles a good place for food lovers? Hi, I'm a local, so I'm biast, yes we are a great place for food lovers, as stated by someone before me, we have spectacular seafood dishes, some which are famous to our islands. One person stated we only eat foods such as seafood which is not completely true. We do make some marvellous dishes with poultry, beef, pork, goat and so on. Some of the other foods that are out of the ordinary are dolphin (illegal to have in possession, but some islanders take the risk), also turtles (also highly illegal) (the illegal foods if found in your possession can accompany periods in prison)and friut bats, which is allowed to be eaten. We used to have crocodiles but some of the older islanders say we ate them all. Some places you can order bat curry. Yummy. We love to cook with coconut, we cook both sweet and savoury with coconut. We love our rice, fruit and vegetable chutney's, spices are a must. Oh when in season you will find sooty tern eggs which are a delicasy. Um also the chinese like to come to our shores for sea urchins (personally yuck), also sea cucumbers (again yuck, as a kid its fun to squeeze the guck out on others), basically we are never bored with our foods for we change our menus frequently. I think with the mixed population of races makes us have so many different foods, in colour, taste and textures. Our yearly food festival is ok, but doesn't contain many of our islands foods. But just walk through victoria our capital at lunch and you will surely find a grilled fish with bilanby chutney, even octupus curry or salad, cocel soup, beef coconut curry and so on. Oh watch out for the chilli, piman, if they ask "would you like "piman"? say just alittle or on the side, cos if you don't see it and aren't used to it, its hot. Be sure to go to Festival Kreole where there are many of our foods, we are one of the only creole coutries to still hold a pan creole. So yes our island home seychelles (sesel) is a great place for food lovers to dampen their palets. Enjoy! If you love sea food.My goodness you will be in paradise. They are delllliiicious. But not good if not a sea food lover. yes and they also have a yearly food festival. |
