Going to Portugal - is it expensive? Suggestions?

I'm going to Lisbon and Albufeira for 2 weeks in March. I'm wondering how expensive it will be...can I expect to spend as if I was in the UK? Any suggestions on what things to do? Is public transport expensive, would you recommend it?

You will find Portugal much cheaper than UK.

Some tips to save. Be aware that some restaurants have tourist menus that are more expensive than if you ask for other meals on the menu. Have fun fiding hidden places to eat. :)

Public transportation in Lisbon can get you almost anywhere.
If you catch the train in Lisbon to Cascais you'll have a wonderfull trip with a wonderfull view. Cross the river to the other part. The trip is about 0.75鈧?(1.50 鈧?for go and return), it's short, but you'll have a wonderfull view.

Also go to the Castle. Catch the tram from downtown, it's worth it. Also see the funiculars and the lift. (all info on the carris site).

Go to Sintra! It's worth it.

From Lisbon to Albufeira you can catch the train.

Have fun!

I can only tell you about Lisbon. I live in Ireland, so Lisbon was very reasonable for me, we ate well for 鈧?5 per person when we went out at night.

The public transport was excellent, I thought the train service was super, we took the train to Sintra in the mountains, and it took about 40 minutes, and we also took the train to Cascai (can't remember how to spell it) and that took about 20 minutes. Tickets were very cheap.

I could go on about what you can do in Lisbon, but I won't - instead I will suggest that you invest in a good guide book and the best I've found is the DK Eyewitness Guide, because it shows everything as well as writes about it.

Oh, and you can take the tram all around Lisbon, but be very careful. Pickpockets are rife, so keep your hand on your handbag all the time.

Other than this, enjoy Lisbon. I loved it there and hope to go back again.

portugal is dirt cheap
i think you would find it hard to spend all your money

probably 1000 just for you

Portugal is cheaper then the UK and public transportation is good. thieves you have all over the world.visit Sintra and the centre of Lisbon, about albufeira I can't help you.
have fun.
