What are the affluent suburbs or areas around Portland, Oregon?

I am moving with my young child, and would like to know of a safe fun place to live.

Fun or affordable? There can be a huge difference in the two.

Nob Hill is very nice.

Lake Oswego is the most affluent.

The other upper middle class suburbs are:
Vancouver, namely the eastern half
The Northern parts of Hillsboro
Oak Hills, Bethany and North of Cornell
Skyline
Parts of Tualatin
Charbonneau (a bit far out)
The West Hills (it's actually in city limits, but you'd neverknow)

And in true Portland fashion there are little tiny pockets of affluent homes stuck all over the remaining suburbs and certain parts of the city.

The best areas are mainly west of town. The West Hills, Northwest Portland, the newer areas of Washington County, and parts of Vancouver, WA, which is north of Portland. I'm from Northeast Portland, and there are some great neighborhoods there as well.

West Hills (within the city limits, beautiful, wealthy and safe).
Eastmoreland (within the city limits, beautiful, wealthy and safe).
Alameda District (within the city limits, beautiful, wealthy and safe).
Laurelhurst Park (within the city limits, beautiful, wealthy and safe).
Suburbs: Dunthorpe - very wealthy, beautiful, and safe.
Lake Oswego - wealthy, beautiful and reasonably safe.
Bull Mountain (in Tigard) - very wealthy, beautiful and safe.
Murrayhill (in Beaverton) - wealthy, beautiful and reasonably safe.

Basically all of Portland is fun and safe for families. It gets a little more dangerous east of 82nd avenue but not the type of dangerous crime you associate with larger cities. There are a lot of young couples moving into the Mississippi district close in to downtown Portland. Most neighborhoods have very active neighborhood councils and people really do make an effort to get to know their neighbors here. There is a giant baby boom going on in Portland right now. There are many family friendly events and social opportunities. Find the neighborhood you feel most comfortable in, preferably close in. They all would be a great place for a child to grow up.
