Tarantulas in Florida?

Are there? If so, is there a lot?

I'm moving there soon and terrified of them, so just curious.

I am moving to Jacksonville, are there any around that area?

I live in central florida and I know there has been a rise in them in south florida due to the pet market for them and a lot of them had been released into the wild...but up in Jacksonville they do not exist in the wild. In fact if youare moving into the city area you won't see much in the way of spiders...but if you are in a rural outskirts the most you will probably see are harmless banana spiders.

Florida does have bugs...not gonna lie about that...but mosquitoes and roaches/palmetto bugs are what everyone hates that just never totally go away!

Throughout the south there are tarantulas - though they don't look like the Mexican tarantulas you see on TV. They are black long-legged spiders that are still sort of large. However, unless you are out in the swamp or outside the city, I doubt if you'll ever even see one.

BTW - there are no poisonous tarantulas if that's what you are worried about. They are relatively docile.

Well, I don't live in Jacksonville, but I've been in central Florida for eight years and have never seen one. In fact, until I read the other answers I would have guessed no.
