Punks in New York city?

Could anyone tell me where the best place is in Manhatten to find some punk culture? Thanks.

Hah! What a great question! My ex, who I moved out to San Jose with, is a total punk rocker - had a few bands in NYC while we were out there.

In Manhattan, I'd keep on the Lower East Side and eastward .. from 14th street and 3rd east to Avenue B-C and down...

St. Mark's Place is a major hangout for punk rockers. There are so many great bars and clubs (Otto's Shrunken Head on 14th betwen B &C is a great bar), The Bowery Poetry Club has punk shows (as well as poetry nights) and its located on the Bowery across from where CBGB's used to be.

You could pretty much walk around the beginning of the Alphabet blocks and find all kinds of things to do. But you may just go nuts over St. Mark's Place initially... Bars, food, awesome stores.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn is home to some punks as well (we lived there)

Here are some other venues known to throw great punk shows:

Arlene's Grocery, Trash Bar, Luna Lounge, Knitting Factory, etc.. etc...
