Mardi Gras Improvement ?

Last time i was at Mardi Gras was in 2005 BEfore the huirricane.
I want to go again.
Have things changed very much?

Somethings never really change in NOLA... Mardi Gras is one of them things.

It's about the same now a days.

It's the same, pretty much, but, sadly, it's over. Try in 2009.

Mardi Gras 2006 was very sparse. It was more of a statement by the people of New Orleans that the city might have been devastated by Katrina but it wasn't dead.

MG 2007 was closer to normal. The parades were almost their pre-Katrina size and the crowds were 1/2 to 2/3 the pre-Katrina size. The parading season was slightly reduced and only one route (the Uptown/Saint Charles route) was allowed by the City.

MG 2008 was effectively normal with a full 12 days of parades, great crowds, and Endymion was able to use the traditional City Park Avenue/Canal Street route.

It is NOT too soon to plan for a trip to New Orleans for Carnival in 2009. Mardi Gras Day will be February 24th, which is more into the winter tourist season than this year's February 5th MGD.
