Good beaches for shelling in southern california?

Sara is definitely right. The LA area beaches, for a number of reasons, are shell-free. I've seen some decent shells down in the tidepools down by La Jolla, and there's decent shelling around Carpinteria. You can still find some clams around Pismo, and I've had some good luck around Monterey Bay as well.

Most beaches in Southern California are pretty shell-free. I have seen more in the Morro Bay area and also up by the Oregon border, but not so much in the highly populated beaches down here.
