Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire State Park?

I am planning a trip to Las Vegas and would like to spend one day somewhere outside Sin City. I am considering either Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire State Park. Which do you prefer? Which should I go to see?

Red rock is only half a hour away, valley of fire much further, each having their own spectacular outlook - but if you want to re-live the movies then it has to be the valley of fire every time!!

Either one is worth visiting so enjoy.

Red Rock Canyon is the far west of the valley, about 30 minutes, with a visitor center and a fantastic loop drive through nature desert life. Close by is Bonnie Springs Ranch and you can horseback ride.

Valley of Fire is over an hour drive from town. The best any time but in the summer (HOT) or when there are storms (flash floods). In the 50's and 60's and one of the Trek movies was made there. They have a nice visitors center. Close by is also the Overton museum for the local Indians of tresures and pictures before Lake Mead covered that area. One the way you can stop in Glendale and see a real buffalo ranch.

RED ROCK CANYON

Red Rock Canyon. Do you like to ride horses? If so then Cowboy trail rides offer some amazing trails through the park.

They're both scenic and you'll probably be happy with either. However, I would pick Valley of Fire given a choice. I also like to drive back to Las Vegas through the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. It takes longer than I-15, but you'll pass through some other nice scenery.

i like valley of fire better. the landscape is prettier. it's a bit further, but easy to get to.

Valley of Fire is better than Red Rock Canyon but neither compare to Mt Charleston - Toiyabe National Forest and it's only 35 miles North of Las Vegas.
