Is it safe to drive the length of Baja? How long will it take from the CA/Baja border to La Paz?

Hello. I have been driving the baja for over 30 years now -- back before there was a road to cabo from la paz. I can tell you, it has changed over the years, but as long as you exercise caution and use your best judgement, you will be fine. For example:
Bring extra gas/water/spare parts with you, never drive at night, never park in an isolated spot by yourself, better yet join up with other campers and drive it together. Never stop for anyone flagging you down for assistance (there is a free road service that will come by and help them eventually (green angels). Stop at all federal road blocks and be as as they are looking for illegal stuff. Learn some basic spanish so you can read the road signs...curva peligrosa might be dangerous if you don't understand and heed it! Tell someone where you are! p.s. It takes a couple of days to drive to la paz.

I've done it twice, and to tell you the truth, I'd never do it again.

The Mexican Government is so corrupt, you are literally taking your life into your own hands by entering mexico. The further south you go, the further you are away from safety, and the deeper you are in danger.

You couldn't pay me to go to mexico. I refuse to go.

We've been twice at Baja with a RV and never had problems.
We only drove by daylight, never at night ( this is what everyone tells you ) . I felt save, but others told me, that there were banditos
on the way between Loreto and La Paz, but we never seen them.
As we made a lot of stop, I don't know, how much time it takes to La Paz .

Have a nice day
K.
