What is the meaning of HATIKVA - Israel's National Anthem and how can we relate the song to Israel's current struggle today??

Hatikvah speaks of the hope of the Jewish people for a land of their own where they can know freedom, security and peace.

Hatikva = The hope

Here is the translation

As long as deep in the heart,
The soul of a Jew yearns,
And forward to the East
To Zion, an eye looks
Our hope will not be lost,
The hope of two thousand years,
To be a free nation in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.

Look at Sparrow's answer for the translation. I don't think it pays to get it again, as it was perfect.

I think the last two lines really epitomize the state of Israel, and all they want.
"To be a free nation in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem."
