Best affordable neighborhoods to move to in Houston, TX???

We finally made a decision and we are going to move to Houston, so we were wondering what are the most affordable neighborhoods to move to in Houston.

My best recommendation to you is to live in one of the suburbs of Houston like Katy, Sugarland, Pearland, Clear Lake. They have affordable housing (ie you can get a NEW 3-4 bedroom home for $200K and up).

It all depends on what area you are working in--Houston is HUGE so if you are working downtown, it makes no sense to live in the Woodlands... If you are working in the Galleria I would suggest living in the Galleria, Sugarland, or West Houston. The last thing you want to do is pick the wrong area then spending 10 hours a day in your car, not to mention the horrific prices on gas....

I Live in Shadow Creek in Pearland TX just 15 min from the Medical center.
It real nice out there

The problem is (unless you are out in the boonies) a good neighborhood costs more, and there is less of a chance it is affordable. I mean, Acres Home is affordable, but you couldn't pay me to live there. The best thing to do is find a neighborhood convenient to where y'all work.

I live in a great neighborhood, but it is a bit more expensive than average. It is worth it, though, as I can walk at night and only fear flying owl dung (or taking a wrong step and finding the stationary canine equivalent). Nice neighbors, little crime, and great location are worth the cost of living here (Memorial area). The area is convenient to me and to my wife, with us working roughly equidistant in opposite directions.

If you have children, DO NOT move into HISD unless you're going to put them in a magnet school or private school. We're house shopping now and I only shop by district.
Friendswood, Clear Creek, Cy Fair (barely) and Pearland are all good districts to look for houses in.

move just south of Houston to Pearland....the fastest growing city in the US

A suburb of Houston called Kingwood is the way to go. Schools are awesome (I went to middle and high school there). The town has everything you want in town, but a mall about 5 miles away and plenty of restaraunts around that mall. Housing is very affordable in Kingwood.

Rigth now with the way construction is going the East / Northeast suburbs of Houston are the cheapest i.e.
Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Crosby, Huffman, Dayton - just to name a few.
