I'm applying for jobs, but am unfamiliar with the Houston area?

So i don't know where the galleria, southwest, northwest, Hobby/Reliant and other areas are

Can you provide a map that will depict the names of the areas please?

Ahhh... you guys crack me up.
Although I have had the pleasure of finding out that FRONTAGE rd is exits on the 8, and that FEEDERS are the roads traveling parallel to the freeway, you still haven't answered my question.

I've been living here for a year, but I don't venture out much outside of Katy. I thought the Galleria Area was downtown....
Which can pretty much tell you that I still have no clue where downtown is.

There isn't a map like that or someone would give it to you... you will have to look at a regular map of Houston and you will find that downtown in at 1-10 and smith for the direction you would be coming from. The Galleria is at Westhimer and 610, the area all around that is called "The Galleria area". Reliant is at Buffalo Speedway and 610. Hobby airport is off of 45... I'll make this easy and say you do not want to work over there it is a really bad part of town...so don't even worry about it! As far as southwest and northwest when your looking at a map it would be both the southwest and northwest parts of Houston. The best thing to do it find the addresses of places in those areas and map-quest them!

This will give you a general idea of just two of the areas you are looking for... Where is says Galleria, that's the Galleria mall but everything near that is the Galleria area, where it says start and finish is downtown.

I dont know about providing a map- but I can explain where they are if you are looking at a map.

The Galleria is the area surrounding the Galleria mall, which is off 610 on the West side, north of 59 and south of I-10.

Southwest is exactly what it impies. Southwest of town, typically outside of the 610 loop.

Northwest is the same.

Hobby is the area surrounding Hobby ariport- west of I-45, north of 610.

Reliant is off 610, closest to the Fannin/Main exit area- near Relaint Stadium.

Go to Rand McNally.com and click on the map tab, it will show you a map of your desired area and it is interactive, it will give you an idea of the area. Lots of luck!
Also the chamber of commerce may help you as well.

Go to Mapquest. Type in Houston in the City field and TX in the State field. That'll give a map of the city. Keep that. Depending on the resolution, you may see listings like Reliant Center, Hobby Airport, the Galleria, and more.

This is a start. You just have to look for a few of the rest.

EDIT: Hey Happy Horn, let's really confuse her! :) Don't forget, feeders and service roads are also called frontage roads. Some exits even say "frontage road" on them. (Yes, question asker, they are all the same thing.)

If anyone gives you directions and tell you exit the feeder. The feeder is actually the service road that runs along the highways.

I tell you this because when I first moved here from Dallas, I had never heard of the service road being called a feeder. I drove forever on 45 looking for an exit called Feeder.

EDIT: William as always you seem to put a smile on my face with your witty comments.

Nova there is not a such map that any of us can provide. Fill up your tank and take a road trip out of Katy and explore Houston. Use mapquest or any other online resources. I would suggest to apply to jobs in the Katy/Sealy area to avoid all the traffic.

Nova,
Great question....I am also moving to the Houston area and will be job hunting. I did not know they called frontage roads, feeders. Thanks for the tip!!!!

google it
