Where should a young, black professional woman live in Houston, Texas? |
I'm interested in moving to Houston at the end of the year...I want to live in a place that is relatively safe and nice, but not too expensive (If that's possible). Also, maybe around a nice social scene with young, single professionals as well! You don't want to go to far outside of the Houston limit. The suburbs are for families and since you aren't in that situation right now, this will only depress you. Plus, it is so far from the city.... i live in houston tho i am not black or female, you want to avoid the south side of town. the heights and insides the 610 loop are good choices but there are alot of nice places but don't expect to pay less than $650ish a month. as for the social scene there is alot of things to do. good luck Anywhere she wants! uum, i could be wrong but the Heights is not a good area Galleria area would be my choice, or Midtown, but neither one of those would be cheap. Anyplace that has a nightlife is going to be popular and popular =more expensive. The burbs like Sugarland, Spring, The Woodlands, 1960, Clear Lake are going to be far from nightlife--they have their own scene, but again it all depends on where you will be driving to work every day Where you want to live in Houston depends on where you work. If work in downtown or the Medical Center, then West University, Mid-town, and the medical center are you best bets. Rent for a 1b/1b in Houston runs somewhere between ~600 to ~850 dollars a month. The galleria and post oak areas are nice as well. I would caution you to avoid southwest Houston which is just outside the 610 loop as the area has a higher crime rate. I Live in Shadow Creek in Pearland TX just 15 min from the Medical center. Live in the suburbs. If you want the social scene it's in and around the 610 loop area. Westheimer blvd. & the Galleria Mall. From there to down town area is where all the action is. as a young black female living in houston i can say that where you live depends on what you want to pay. if you a house i would suggest pearland, which isnt too far out from downtown and the medical center. the other suburbs like sugarland, the woodlands, and the cypress areas are nice but way too far out. apts prices can vary by areas as well. it really depends on where you will be working. as far as the social scene goes, downtown houston and southwest, galleria areas have the most to offer as far as young black professional nightlife. but be careful. a lot of clubs pose as a sophisticated places but really are breeding grounds for gold digging hoodrats, groupies, and closet homosexual men. im serious. the club scene also changes a lot in houston. whats hot one week, maybe not be the next. good luck |
