What can I dofor a day in Houston, Texas?

I am going to be 'stranded' in Houston for a day, what kind of activities are there that would be unique to the area? (Meaning not the movies or a mall.)
I am willing to rent a car.

You could drive a short distance south to the Johnson Space Center. Plenty to see and do there - behind the scenes tour of the facility, theaters with massive screens (better than IMAX) which give you the feeling of being in space, shops etc.

If you're going in the spring, try catching a Houston Astros baseball game if they're in town.

Go to the NASA space station. It is a bit out.
So much to see and do there once you get in.You can climb into space ships and see how it all works, how they prepare and all.
It is a conducted tour.

go to moody garden. that was niceee :]
& i loved the houston zoo<3 museum too!

Drive up to the Woodlands or Lake Conroe even, IF you have the gas money. Nice & peaceful there!
