Need some facts about cactus Texas?

hubby offered government job in Cactus Texas need some answers about possible rental property, shopping hospitals general facts, population etc thanks

Cactus is a city in Moore County, Texas, United States, along U.S. Route 287. The population was 2,538 at the 2000 census. They are way in the panhandle no where close to Houston or really anywhere.

Does not look like you will be doing too much shopping there.

There are two locations in Texas called Cactus (it's not uncommon in Texas to have duplicate names; it's a big state).

If you're going to the one in south Texas in the Rio Grande Valley (near the border), then you'll be in a very warm environment year-round. The area grows a lot of fruit and vegetables for the U.S., and employs a great many workers from Mexico. You will be only a few miles north of Laredo/Nuevo Laredo (the Mexican side of the border). There is good shopping, large Hispanic population. Your primary artery for travel will be I-35; it's very crowded, as it's a primary north-south route not only through Texas but through the entire U.S. I have not lived there, only visited, so I can't really give you a lot of information on the rental properties or hospitals, but Laredo is a large enough city that I'm sure there are plenty of options. It's not Dallas, but it's not the boonies, either.

I notice that you posted in the section on Houston; that city is about five hours away from Laredo. I grew up in Texas, and Houston is just about my LEAST favorite city in the U.S., so you're not missing anything; it's dirty, crowded, and HUMID, with mosquitoes big enough to carry you off ;-)

Be SURE to get a place with air conditioning or count on buying enough window units for your home; it is an absolute must in Texas if you have not ever been there. Likewise, if your car is not air-conditioned, trade it before you get to Texas for one that is.

Good luck. I live in Washington state now.

well i live there actually its nice there cause sunny beaches are there(well its hot there)

Check at the MapQuest web site. Type in Cactus, Texas. When they offer the two options, pick the one that is the correct one for you and then click on the "places nearby" category. There should be some helpful information there.
