Is 35 too old to start a career in Houston, Texas?

I am moving there soon and I wonder if anyone will want to hire me, an upstate New Yorker?

it is never too late to start a new beginning. just think positive in everything that you want to do and everything that you are doing. all you need is motivation, courage, patience and willingness.

some people start a career when they are 50!

Col. Sanders started his career when he was in his 60s, so 35 is young.
You could reasonably work for 30 years and still be too young for Social Security.

35 isnt too old to start a career anywhere, even for an upstate new yorker

Send out your resume!!!!

houston has a wonderful job market. there is a lot of opportunity here.

what have you been doing in NY? will you be making a career change or have you not been working and are starting new? your answers to these questions will affect the kind of job you might start out at. there are several fortune 100 companies and many fortune 500 companies in houston. sometimes just a foot in the door can lead to a long and successful career!

btw- houston is a very diverse city. people from all over the world, never mind the country, come here to live and work in industries like oil &gas, medical and technology. where you are from will have no bearing on your opportunities here.

Not in Houston. Many International and national companies call the Houston area home.

There are plenty of opening that are career positions. In large cities like Houston, employees are constantly job hopping to greener horizons and better pay, thus leaving their old positions in need of filling.

The oil companies are doing great and Houston is a major player in that field. Medicine and hospitals are also booming here.

You can access the Houston Chronicle (city news paper)online to search for employment, Sundays being the best.

Or you can register with the Texas Worksource online and view listings.

Being an "Upstate New Yorker", you should have no problem. It's just the city New Yorkers that bug most people here.

I hope you are successful beyond your wildest dreams here!

35 is not old. It depends on what type of job you are looking for. I would not want to start medical school at 35 but hey... that's me. You can do anything you want to do and your age will not get in your way.

Enjoy and good luck!

Depends on the career. If you were a gymnast or astronaut, probably yes, but it is never too late to start any professional career as long as you are current.

Hell, I got my MBA at age 45.

Oh my gosh, no! I'm 51 and just started my new career this year (not in Houston, but here in Texas). Age is just a number.
