I want to move to hawaii?

I am 13 and I want my parents to move to hawaii but they said that its too expensive and the locals hate us whites. is it true?

No, we don't hate whites. There has been some racial cases going on in Hawaii but thats becuase big mouth people try to act tough.

Expensive absolutely, someone I know moved there as a dentist and lived in pretty much a shack that was outrageous so unless your parents are rich it would be very difficult to live there.

It is very expensive; they are correct about that much. Locals have trouble with whites who come over here with a lot of attitude about how much better everything is "back home". But if a person is friendly & respectful, there are few problems.

Like everyone already said, yes it is very expensive, no getting around that. However, local people do not hate white people, we don't like STUPID white people. I'm talking about the snobby people that come here, buy up all this land, and think they own the place. Like Jerremy said, sometimes it's the locals who start the fights cuz they can't keep their mouths shut, Hawaii has a long history with white people, something that you should read up about to familiarize yourself with and maybe get an understanding of why some local people hate white people. On the other hand, a lot of the times white people are the ones starting things. A lot of them, not all but enough, can be very snobbish and not care. I admit I get angry and yell at tourists sometimes, but that's only because they put myself and my daughter in danger because they don't know how to drive. The other day I was driving home from the store and a tourist cut right in front of me and almost caused an accident. Yes I was mad, I would have been the one at fault and the one who was financially responsible, so you see, a lot of tourists get the wrong idea. I would have yelled if it was a local guy too, but it just happened to be a tourist. So far, most of our deadly accidents on the island have been cause by tourists.

Anyway, point is, local people don't hate white people, some of them do, but only some.

Well, I'm white and as long as I respect other people, they respect me. I think your parents got some wrong information somewhere. BUT, the cost of living is VERY high here, and the public schools aren't all that great. Save up for an 18th birthday vacation!

No you fool it is not true that the locals hate whites! What a generalization! I'm white and nobody hates me , but maybe that's because I'm respectful of the local culture and don't say such stupid things as "locals hate us whites". The only white people who have that problem are the ones who think that they're better than the locals and come over here and try to take over. Tell your parents to stay away from our islands because we don't need such close minded fools polluting our state. And to the poster who said "yes it's true" then you must be one of those annoying white people who think that they're superior to the Hawaiians. Go back to the mainland if you can't handle this culture being something other than what you were raised in. Stupid haole.

My uncle moved to Hawaii a year ago and he hates it. He encounters all the things most short-term tourists don't: lots of bums, gang fights, outrageous prices and heavy traffic. If he drives to work it takes him 1 hour, but if he walks it takes him 20 minutes.

I hate to break it to you but your parents are right about one thing, it is very expensive. Alot of locals who grow up move away to California or other places because they cannot afford to live there anymore, or many people all live together, like grandparents, their children and their grandchildren all live in one house. I grew up in Hawaii, I moved to the mainland 4 years ago, I am now a college student, and it very expensive I still remember. There is a website you can go to and compare the price of living. Like I live in Mississippi now, it is 105% more expensive to live in Hawaii than here, that is ALOT. As for the locals hating white people, if your parents moved there thinking that and with that type of attituide, then yes the locals will not respect you. It's like anywhere you go, if your not respectful, friendly, or nice to someone, they won't like you. But they don't hate you just because you are white. I am white and never had a problem and I grew up there and went to school. Why don't you convince them to try a vacation first??
