I'm planning to take a trip alone to Hawaii next month.?

Can someone tell me which island is the best for someone who wants a calm, peaceful, beautiful vacation but also with the shopping and other perks.

Maui is probably your best bet for the balance between peace and quiet and shopping. Oahu is slightly smaller than Maui, area wise, but has more than 7 times Maui's population. The shopping on Maui is along Front Street in Lahaina, and in Kahului along Queen Kahumanu Avenue and Dairy Road.

Kauai and Hawaii (the Big Island) are other possibilities, but their scattered populations don't support a great deal of retail.

Honolulu has the shopping, but can be ugly like any big city. If you stay at a resort, you can do all of the fun touristy stuff. If you want quiet, check out the TurtleBay Hilton on the North Shore. You can drive to nearby beaches, Sunset beach is one. I love the North Shore, but during peak season its busy, lots of surfing.

Maui or Kauai. Both are peaceful with Kauai being the most peaceful and tropical of the two islands. Their is stil plenty of shopping on Kauai, with a large shopping area near the airport with many stores. Maui is good too, but not as quiet. I also love the way Kauai does not have any highrises. It just makes it more beautiful.

One of my best friends lives in Honolulu. Hawaii is absolutely amazing! It is my favorite place I have ever traveled to!!
Since you are going alone, you might wast to go to Oahu. It has the best of both worlds - beautiful beaches and also nightlife, etc. You could explore DiamondHead, Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, and Ala Moanoa for shopping and other things too besides just beaches. Maui and the other islands are great beauties and have their own unique things too, but Oahu has the biggest variety of things I think... If I were you, I would do Oahu and then maybe travel to another island as well for 1-3 days. They run very cheap airfares for travel island to island (sometimes as low as $29) since they are very competitive with it.. Have a great time!!

Go to Hawai'i (the big island) you can find a place that is super secluded from everything, or go to Kona or Hilo and hit all the shopping you want. Plus the Hilo Botanical Gardens is a phenominal experience if you want to see an overload of tropical flora. or you can had south on the belt road and see Volcano National Park which is BEAUTIFUL! And if you want to go the north side and see the all the niceities up there. The beaches are wonderful, all different kinds of sand (black, white, green) and if you REALLY wanted to go to Honolulu or the other islands, it doesn't cost that much or take that long to get to any other island as well.

Hope that helps!

for what you are describing......I would recommend The Big Island - Hilo.....
