I want to go to Hawaii, but I don't know where a good place in Hawaii would be to go.?

My husband and I want to plan our late honeymoon/anniversary trip to Hawaii. Well, at least I do, but I don't know where to go there. I want to go someplace where we can do scuba diving, and enjoy the beach. I don't really are for a spa day or anything like that because I know that he wouldnt enjoy that. Also, I don't want it to be so Americanized even though Hawaii is part of America. What island is best?

Can you get me Don Ho's autograph?

They are all amazing. Just make sure to do alot of research. Some people go and stay in Honolulu and go to a couple popular beaches and never really get out there. You can really see the true and amazing beauty if you get out there. I would recomend Kawaii if you like gardens, because it's so green and has flowers everywhere. Oaho is always good too with Pearl Harbor and Dole Pinnaple Maze. But if you do choose Oaho, stay away from the cities. They ruin the experience. The other islands are beautiful, too. I would really suggest doing some research and then making a decision based on that. Hope I helped! :)

What is more important to you? good diving or good beaches?

The best scuba diving in Hawaii is near Kona on the Big Island but the Big Island doesn't have very many sandy beaches since it's a fairly "new" island. It's cool too because you can see Kilauea, their active volcano.

There are more sandy beaches around Maui and the diving is OK.

But if you don't want something Americanized and you want to dive and have great beaches, perhaps you should consider going to Bonaire in the Caribbean? There is great diving there and absolutely tons of shore dives - and it's part of the Dutch Antilles so it's not Americanized. There are non-stop flights to Bonaire from Houston, Atlanta and Newark (and maybe other places too).

i would suggest going to oahu. stay on the strip of waikiki beach....it's a very touristy area. go snorkeling at haunama bay and definitely check out a luau. have fun!

My sisters doing the same thing, heres what I told her:
Maui - Old Lahaina Luau (apparently the best in HI), great beaches everywhere(Makena/Big Beach my favorite), sunrise on Haleakula volcano, road to Hana, snorkel/dive Molokini

Big Island - Volcano Park (see Kilauae volcano erupting), and the islands huge so theres a lot of outdoorsy activities to do

Kauai - the least americanized island in my eyes, Waimea canyon (the grand canyon of hawaii), waterfalls galore, amazing helicopter rides, shave ice

Oahu - Honolulu (like any other city), Polynesian cultural center (amazing show/luau, they pick you up in the city and give you a great tour of the island on the way to the place), pearl harbour, north shore

those are just some of the things i did when i lived there, I think my sister decided to scratch the cruise idea and is going to split her time between oahu and maui, and i agree with that. (although the volcano is really worth seeing)

If you seek nightlife along with shopping and beaches, I would suggest Honolulu. If you desire a resort type vacation then Maui might be in order. Either way you'll do just fine....So Oahu for nightlife and city experience..ala waikiki

Maui or Oahu!!!!

They both have scuba diving!!!
And snorkeling....parasailing, surfing!!!!

i loved oahu...there was so much to do and see

I went to Oahu and Hawaii last year with my hubby. We both thought Oahu was waaaaay too touristy. Sure, there is stuff to see there (Pearl Harbor) which is why we went, but when I think of tropical paradise, I don't think of The Cheescake Factory and Gucci - which is what Waikiki was. We were so relieved to get out of there and onto the big island. There are some nice beaches along the Kohala coast (look up Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel). And there is an AMAZING night dive with the manta rays off Kona. I've never been to Maui or Kauai, but I would definitely recommend the big island over Oahu if you are looking for low-key tropical paradise type stuff.
