Question for ONLY Social Workers (or people w/h Human Services degree) on HI?

I grew up in Hawaii, and I miss it everyday, I am currently in college and getting a degree in Human Services. I would wondering if someone who lives in Hawaii and has a Human Services degree could help me out with some questions. What kind of job do you have? what do you do? I am thinking about social work. What is the average salary, or if you dont mind, what is your salary with your job? Or how much is it for a social worker? What company do you work for? And is it really enough? what type of degree do you have? (assoc. ba, masters?) I want to go back to Hawaii very badly. Any answers to these questions would help. Thanks!

Assuming your degree is an AA degree you will find the competition fairly tough in HI. The salaries are ok, but the cost of living is tough. The university of HI has a good Social Work program.

DA

There is a shortage of social workers. I would get as much internship/field experience as you can! You can check HireNet, a state-run, free site that will give you an idea of the jobs available (government and private sector). Child & Family Services, Honolulu Community Action Program are some of the larger hirers in the private sector. Salaries would be low with a BA, maybe $30,000. UH has a good social work masters degree program and after a year you could enroll and work toward a higher degree. The cost of living is brutal, but if you are dedicated, you can make it work.
