Are there ghettos in hawaii? |
Are there ghettos in hawaii? Yes, Hawaii has ghetto areas like any other major city. However, it's not like the ghettos on the mainland. yep absolutly...but not like florida ghettos or detroit michagan ghettos....... yes, on certain parts of certain islands. More of really cheap housing, more spread out than ghettos in the USA I have not been there but I am sure that is a safe bet that, yes there are ghettos in hawaii. Na. Not like you thinking. Poor areas. But its sooo different than the mainland. The violence doesnt really exisit. Yes, there are. Just like any other city, that's why I grew up in the country in Hawaii. Born in Haleiwa and raised in NANAKULI.........They don't like tourists in Nanakuli tho. North Shore is VERY NICE..Stay away from Honolulu beaches. Lots of homeless Hawaiians there...... Breeze is right about the honalulu beaches. theres like 50 homeless men there! We named our guys, one was named cart guy, cause he lived only with a cart. and smelled REALLLLLLY bad. :) hahahaha. yes there are ghettos, but not like the ones here in detroit michigan. There diff. like poor. :) hope it helps. lol Per American Heritage dictionalry a ghetto is defined as a section of a city occupied by a minority group who live there esp. because of social, economic or legal pressure. I grew up in the Boston area, so when I think ghetto, I think of block after block of tenement type dwellings, high crime, low employment, often racially segregated. In other words, a place where I would not feel safe walking around alone, even in the middle of the day. There are no places on Oahu that would fit my definition of a ghetto. The closest we would come to that are a handful of state subsidised housing projects (Kuhio Park Terrace, Mayor Wright housing) and the beach park tent cities where homeless folks are camping. There are other parts of town that are not so nice & have more than their share of problems with poverty & related issues, but to call them ghettos,,, well, to me, that is a stretch. If you have never experienced a real, urban, mainland ghetto, you might want to call these areas ghettos, but to me, they are not even close. of course but there aren't big huge hardcore gangs but its just where people who are poor but try hard but as you knw hawaii has high rates YES.....in Waianae.....there is "Homeless beach" where there are a lot of homeless people living on the beach....also in Honolulu at Ala Moana park...but not as bad as the West side of the island....also in Kalihi.......Waipahu...Pearl City.... palolo valley, happy valley, waianae |
