Do you think old people should be allowed to drive?

Do you think old people should be allowed to drive?

yes but they need to be fit to drive...i worked in an eye clinic where if they passed the eye test..we had to okay their paperwork for driving priviledges...and there were times where they passed the eye test but there were other concerns that we had no choice but to pass them...these people need to be checked throughly.....

They should have to take a driving test every year after they turn 80 if they want to continue to drive.

yes but only if they can pass a driving test every 3 months. The test should be free.

They should be fit, as one of the people before me said, for driving to be allowed to drive. Like have glasses, good memory, etc.

Some people in general shouldn't be allowed to drive but age has nothing to do with it.

Only if they are constantly checked for their vision and reaction times. I don't really like old people driving, BUT if they pass a test that concludes they have the senses of someone of a younger age, there should be nothing stopping them from driving.

Yes. When they renew their lisence, they prove their ability to drive safely. If they pass the renewing tests but are still prone to accidents, then the tests would need to be changed

Maybe at a certain age they should take an annual driver's test to keep the privelage to drive. Do they do that now? I don't even know. I have driven around plenty of old drivers and feared for my life. I would hate to take that away from an old person but when it becomes unsafe for them and others then the privelage should be taken away.

I think they should take a driving test again at a certain age to determine if they are still capable of driving safely (reflexes, vision, etc.)

I'm one of those 'old people' 70 this year so after this year my licience is no longer valid! I have to check up on what I need to do to get it renewed in the UK.
OK fair enough question, now do you think young folk should be allowed to drive???

actually, the most accidents are caused by young men ages 16-20-something.
old people have very few accidents.

i'm 29, female, and almost died in a car accident from goint too fast (70mph on a wet road). I used to pass everyone in the left lane with music blarring, but in the rain i slowed down to 70mph. My car skid and would up upside down in a river, i almost drowned. I never cut people off and i only tailgated in the left lane when there was an old person in the left lane, so i was never a really big jerk.
Now i know how deadly driving is, i drive in the right lane with the old people -- i hit 70 in good weather -- and while old people force me to move over to the left lane to pass them which annoys me -- i don't wanna be in the left lane -- the people i really hate are the young men who don't just wanna go fast -- they wanna go faster *than*. They wanna push other people out of their way to prove what big ***** they are -- i mean -- have. I have a jihadist anger toward these men. While i will not die *for* them by speeding up -- i will happily die *with* them by playing chicken with them and breaking and all that fun stuff. Off the road, they may be bigger and stronger than me, but on the road, i can kill them just as much as they are trying to kill me.

old people? heck, I *like* old people. i get in behind them, count off a 4 second following distance, and protect them from tailgaters.

tailgaters are idiots -- they will pass me -- only to get in back of the old person and tailgate *them*. why not just stay in the left lane? sheesh! i think tailgaiting makes people near-sighted, so that when one car leaves a following distance behind another car, the tailgater cannot see the first car!

only after they pass a coherency and knowledge test.

What age do you mean by "old"??? ........ and watch it I'm over 60 ..... there are some people who do a good job of driving up in their 80's and 90's. Then there are some who need to be off the road when they hit 60 to 70. So you cannot just generalize.

But many times when there are accidents its not the old people but the impatient young people who want to get there at 60 miles an hour around town and 80 miles an hour on the highway.

yes, just be sure that they are still able and capable

only old people that can actually dirve safley, not the ones that have a license but are soo usless on the roads!!! and do 20km under grrr
