Scared to fly?

I'm flying to Colorado in a week. I'm really not a person who gets scared easily, but there's something about being trapped in a metal coffin several miles into the air that makes me question whether humans were really meant to fly.

I understand that statistically, driving is safer than flying, by a lot. However, it's something about touching the ground the entire time that makes driving more appealing. If a plane crashes, holy ****. You have no chance of surviving. However, if a car crashes, you'll probably survive.

Also, there's terrorism to worry about. I'm not racist at all. I'm a very, very, very racially accepting person. However, when I get on a plane, and I see a brown guy sitting on my plane. Again, holy ****. I'm scared as ****. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but sorry, it scares the **** out of me.

I know that there are ways to alleviate the anxiety, but there isn't a way to make flying any safer. Every time you fly, you take a pretty sick risk.

Input please

EDIT

Typo: Driving is NOT safer than flying

Honestly, just relax. There are so many ways to die throughout the world. Consider the actual odds of your plane crashing, they are horribly small.

If worst comes to worst, I always tell my friends: Take a Dramamine. Its an anti-motion sickness pill but causes sleepiness. Take a few and conk out for the flight, wake up at your destination and don't worry about the plane.

It's scary. I love flying, but even I am afraid to go up.....after Sept. 11. Its natural, not really racism, it's just instinct. Survival. But you have to take the risk, I suppose. Everything will probably be just fine...it's not all muslims, and there havent really been any incidents since then. Good luck!

Well, you already know the statistics - no reason for me to quote them.
This is all I know: I was a flight attendant for 20 years - was probably on about (roughly) 30,000 flights. I never had an accident. All of my coworkers from those 20 years are also still alive. However, I have had friends and a couple of relatives die immediately in auto crashes. Airline pilots and flight attendants love their lives as much as you -- if it were really that dangerous, who in there right mind would ever choose this for a career? So - I'm going to have to disagree with your statement about taking a 'sick risk'. You are taking
a very exceedingly low risk. Just waking up every day and going about your normal business involves risk. Try to relax and have a good flight to Colorado.

I pretty much feel the same way you do. I prefer driving over flying anyday, it scares me way too much..I need to have the stability and piece of mind that I am closer to the ground. I liev in California and have flown to Hawaii,Colorado, Nevada, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Chicago. It never gets any easier either. The whole time I am on the plane I am thinking that it is the end. But I have been a lot more involved with church and now I kind of feel that if it's God's will than it's God's will. It's really out of our hands.

don't be afraid about fly.. i flown many times.. the first time was so scary... but after that.. i didn't worry anymore.. the last time i flown.. i almost freak out... Because it was raining .. And had a little turbulence on the plane... but that is normal when is raining...
so don't worry.. just enjoy the landscape...

good luck!!

Racial phobia does go around a lot these days. You will have to find a more relaxing way to take your mind off of the inside of the flying 'metal coffin' that you describe. The thing to do is to keep yourself occupied with something and become absorbed in that for most of the trip. The second thing is to close your eyes and sleep and before you know it you will have arrived at your destination. And be more refreshed for a night of fun.
