How safe is flying??

this next weekend, im flying up to utah. ive flown before, but ive never liked it. i always get scared and think of the worst thing that can happen. all i need is some reassurance and some info. that flying is safe. i know it is, but how safe?? thanks

Statistically, flying is the safest form of transport. Millions of planes and passengers fly every year and you only ever hear about the ones that crash, and not about the overwhelming majority that fly and land safely.

I used to be a nervous flier too, mainly because I don't do it very often I guess, then last time I flew I had such a good calm flight out in perfect weather and no turbulence that when it was time to return I just took a few deep breaths and decided (consciously) not to worry and it worked! The return journey was a bit bumpy but I closed the window blind and concentrated on my magazine until the turbulence was behind us and I knew it was ok.

It's natural to be a little nervous, but try distractions, or sleeping, or watching the inflight movie, eat and drink and go to the loo and before you know it you will have arrived safely.

Enjoy your flight and your weekend, bon voyage!

there is a better chance to get killed when you drive..

more people die in carnivals than in airplanes.

i think.

Its safer than you think. The things that happen are isolated incidents. You're safer in the air than on the road.

Flying somewhere IS SAFER than driving somewhere...have fun in Utah

Statistics have proved it safer to fly in a plane than to drive a car

If you are traveling on a major airline you have more assurance to arrive safely. The accident that usually happens in flying is from negligence or bad weather conditions. Numerically autos have more accident that kill people than airplanes. The passenger list is very limited so there are not that many casualties.

Flying is the safest way to travel, you have an experienced pilot without any back seat drivers trying to say things like, hey you should have turned left, if one engine fails, they have others, and once you have actually got air born, you dont even know you are moving.

Many people are worried about flying, but many have not even tried it.

I enjoy take off, and landing, the bit in the middle can be boring especially if it's a long flight.

Good luck
