While in a plane, my eardrums hurt just before landing, what's the cause and how to cope with it?

I just feel it when the plane descent for a landing. But when it was cruising everything feels normal. It's twice alreacy and happens only when I arrive here in Singapore.

Its the change in air pressure i think. Either that or the the rapid change in altitude. Chewing chewing gum helps me when it happens to me.

It is the cabin pressure equalizing. Try swallowing before decent. Bring a water bottle and drink sips while the plane decends.

This should help.

it happens to me too. Try chewing some gum, but the only thing that works for me is patience after I get off the plane... it's SO annoying when you're ears just won't pop!

It's the cabin of the plane depressurizing. Try chewing gum. It helps or make yourself yawn.

Try chewing gum...or yawning.

Or waking up after the plane lands so hopefully you don't notice.

probably because of the air altitude. it's a normal thing. you could chew some gum to lessen the hurting. it helps.

I find that on decent start swallowing like mad, just sit there and keep swallowing it stopped my ears from popping on the way home from new zealand twice!

Air pressure. Can you yawn at will? That pops the ears back to normal. Suck a sweet and swallow. That works a little too.

happens to most people durring take off and landing everywhere. try sucking on lifesavers or another hard candy, solves the problem for me and everyone in my family every time ;) has to do with the cabin pressure as its increased or decreased in order to not collapse at the altitude youre flying i believe

Its probably because of the sudden change in pressure. When your up that high for that long your eardrums tend to adjust to the pressure. But then when you start to land, your going down and pressure is decreasing at a fast rate, so your ears are still used to the higher pressure, thus why your ears are hurt. (not as detailed as i could've been but whatever) well it's kind of hard to stop it ocmpletely but i chew gum when i fly, it helps....

Your eardrums hurt because the plane is losing altitude and they are just adjusting to the pressure. Don't worry! It's very common, and it's not an illness. It's just a normal body reaction.

try chewing gum or popping your ears, it's the pressure change, like if you scuba or snorkel deep

the same thing happened to me last year when i flew to mexico, its because of the cabin pressure, what i did to help it was to eat gum

it's due to sudden change of pressure, never mind, just try to "pop" both ears will do the trick.

Use your thumb & index finger to pinch your nose, try hard to blow your nose by sneezing hard, u should hear the pop sound

I visit Singapore every 2 to 3 years because my relatives live there and my family lives in Australia. Singapore is a great place. I was born there. I visited it last year! Try sucking on a lolly pop ( I know that might sound childish), chew on some chewing gum it will help, sip your water slowly, * Be sure to drink alot!* You can try popping your ears by pressing on your nose and blow. I miss Singapore alot! :(
Try sleeping, maybe that would help!

I know exactly what you are going through. A flight attendant saw I was in severe pain and you are not going to believe it but this works and I do it every time I fly. You ask for a styrofoam cup and a HOT wet paper towel inside the cup. You keep it over your ear or both (I always get 2) and do not remove them until you touch ground. Flight attendants know this procedure, all you have to do is ask before decent starts. Once on a flight to Europe before I knew this trick I had ear pain for 3 days going right down my neck.
