Similarities and differences between Greeks and their neighbors?

Can you please list any similarities and things that set Greeks apart from other Mediteraneans?
Thank you

You got it right Vlamis! Because you are very observant and you know history you figured out my nick :)
The main reason I picked my name is that is directly correlated with our stand that Macedonia always was, is and will be a part of Greece.
The artifacts and tombs of the king Philip found in Vergina are unshaken proof of our past.

Like other Mediterranean countries (like southern Italy, Spain, Portugal) Greece has a low index of violent crimes. Many people believe in religion. Family bonds are strong. Corruption is high. Olive oil is an essential element of nutrition. Greece, Spain and Italy are members of EU and NATO and have euro as their currency.

Differences: Greeks (like Serbs and Bulgarians) are Christian Orthodox while others are Catholic. Greece (like Serbs and Bulgarians again) was for 500 years under the rule of Ottoman Turks and there are some Middle Eastern influences in modern Greek culture in things like music or cousine.

Greeks have a relatively good economy and rather high per capita income while Serbians, Bulgarians and Albanians have a low per capita income.

Mwauram: I think that the term "Mediterranean" is rather cultural than geographic. Many people include Portugal, even Argentina in "Mediterranean countries". Argentinians are 95% descentants of Italians and Spanish. Northern Italy looks like a central-northern European country.

No differences between Greeks and Greek speaking neighbors. Greek speaking neighbors exist because they are Greeks out of Greece. South Italy , Albania , Asia minor , other european countries was greek or greek colony in the past (Think about the period of Alexander the Great , King of the greek region of Macedonia, and other periods).

For the rest I agree with AVGVSTVS.

As I can see, you have the name of the city of Aigai, ( Vergina ) .

Did you know that the ancient first capital of the Kingdom of Macedonia , was discovered in the 19th century near Vergina, in northern Greece? The most important remains are the monumental palace, lavishly decorated with mosaics and painted stuccoes, and the burial ground with more than 300 tumuli, some of which date from the 11th century B.C. One of the royal tombs in the Great Tumulus is identified as that of Philip II, who conquered all the Greek cities, paving the way for his son Alexander and the expansion of the Hellenistic world.

Augustus, not only south of Italy is mediterranean, check the map and you'll see tha 85% of the territory is mediterranean, whether much less than that is mediterranean in Spain. Portugal............is not mediterranean at all. Plus if you have visited thoe countries you'll see that Italians and Greeks look kind of the same, true also for spaniards, but you'll find a higher share of lighter colored people in Spain.
