Tampa Florida- What is the history of the Knight Parade? |
We accidentally ran into and attended the Knight Parade, but nobody we talked with seemed to really know exactly what it was about and why people dressed like pirates instead of Knights/Medieval dress. How is it different related to the Gasparilla Parade? The only explanations we ever got were that people from Tampa loved parades. It was a great parade and we had a blast, but I would love to know the details about it's history and raison d'etre. The Knight parade is an off shoot of Gasparilla, which is why there is the pirate theme. The difference is that it is the Spanish Krewe the Knights of San Yago that runs the Knight Parade, as opposed to the Gasparilla Parade which is run by the Ye Mystic Krewe. The Knight parade is usually a little wilder than the Gasparilla, which is more of a daytime family event. Here is the San Yago website. http://www.kreweofsantyago.com/ You should go to wikiapedia and put ( history of the Knight Parade )+ ! |
