Who has fun facts on spain that are weird and cool.?

Who has fun facts on spain that are weird and cool.?

1. They just started a program to pay spanish woman appx. $1000 for each child they have. Spain is having problems with young couples in particular but people in general having children.
I think this is both cool and FANTASTIC since I'm a spanish mom and the next baby I have I will get some extra money to help out!

2. Botellon is a problem they are having with youth's in Spain trying to save money and drinking in the streets. Instead of going to bars they buy alcohol at a store and meet at a PUBLIC location to have a night long party with lots of drinking!

When I was younger I thought this was very INTERESTING thing young people did this. Always something adults are talking about.

3. La Tomatina in Bunol (Valencia) is a festival once a year where everyone gathers and the entire town has a food fight with tomatoes. It is a very messy event!

I've never been to this but always thought it would be super fun to attend.

I chose these because they are random and most people wouldn't know about them. Something your typical tourist book wouldn't tell you!

Madrid , Spain

Did You Know?

Madrid towers as Europe's highest city at 2,100 feet/640 meters.

Orientation:

Madrid, Spain's capital, sits in the center of the country which resembles an obese peninsula. Pamplona, with its bull rampaging streets, lies 253 miles/407 kilometers north near the border of France. Barcelona basks 385 miles/620 kilometers northeast along the Mediterranean coast. Seville, near the Strait of Gibraltar, lies 287 miles/462 kilometers south, and the Mediterranean Sea splashes 218 miles/351 kilometers directly east.

There is this thing called La Corrida de Toros which they let the bulls run around some places and people over 17 I think are able to run with them.

The second queen of Unified Spain, Juana la Loca, travelled around the country with her dead husband, Felipe el Hermoso in a glass coffin for several years.

Nobody really knows where Christopher Columbus was born, grew up, or where he is buried, though he is supposedly in the Cathedral of Seville.

A tortilla, in Spain is an omelette, not what we think of from Mexico.

There are caves in the Santander area where a couple of children found paintings that date from about the same time as the cave paintings in France.

Tapas, little dishes, really means "lids", and their roots are that the bartenders used to cover the beer glasses with small plates to keep the dust and bugs from getting into the glass. Later, they began putting a little ham and cheese on the plate, and that evolved into the custom known as "tapa-hopping", or going around to different bars and getting a small plate of treats or dinner-type food, instead of going for dinner, or before going for dinner.

Coffee in most Spanish caf茅s is roasted with sugar, making it taste more caramelized than other coffees. It's called Torrefacto.

Most people in Spain never drink Sangria. It is considered on a par with "Garbage can punch".

If it is your first time in Spain, and you are going in a small village (not touristic one), lost in the middle of no where, don't expect to get a meal before 21h00 at night and for lunch: 14h00!!! This happens to me, coming from Switzerland and after a trip in a bus for 4 hours, I arrived in a lost place (where I had to get a training) on a Sunday afternoon at 16h00 (just when the restaurant are closing for lunch), without having eaten anything since 09h00... believe it or not I had to steal an apple that was on decoration in the hostal, where I stayed.. as I had to wait, till 21h30 to get my plate on the table.. I lived 3 years in Barcelona, and of course in such a big cities it doesn't happen!!!
