Any interesting facts on spain???

i need it for my project :(

- It's 5 times bigger than the UK with only two thirds of its population.

- There are 3 main languages in Spain, Castillian (the most commonly spoken), Catal谩n (spoken in the Catalunya region, where Barcelona is) and Euskara which is spoken in the Basque region. The latter language is of mysterious origin. It is not similar to any languages in the vicinity and some say that is originates from the Cromagnon man.

- In Spain, 38 million pigs are eaten each year.

- 92% of Spain is undeveloped in terms of building.

- Most building is around the coasts and Madrid.

- Madrid is in the physical centre of the country.

- There are an average of 12 national holidays in Spain plus the national and local days that can sometimes also constitute days off work.

- They make jokes about people from Lepe in Huelva, but no one can explain why.

- There appears to be no limit to the length of ad breaks on Spanish TV with some being longer than 15 minutes.

- Some traditions Spain is famous for are: Flamenco dancing, bull-fighting, ham eating, giving a "tapa" with any order of beer in a bar (a little plate with some food on it, originally meant to be used as a "lid" for the beer so that the flies wouldn't get in), processions with a religious statue, cider pouring from great heights, living at home with your parents until you get married (especially for men), botell贸n (drinking in the streets/car parks etc. with your friends), holidaying in Spain, taking the whole month of August as a holiday, long lunches.

- Spain is the second most visited country in the world

- It was a dictatorship up until 30 years ago

- When Franco (the dictator) was in power, a woman couldn't open a bank account or travel without a man in tow unless she had permission from her father or husband.

- There are over 10,000 centenarians in Spain today

- The areas of Alicante and Murcia have the cleanest air in Europe according to the WHO.

- Spain is composed of: mainland Spain, The Balearic islands (Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Formentera and Menorca...oh... and Cabrera), The Canary islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. There is also an island called El Hierro and one called La Gomera where locals have an ancient language based on whistles which could be heard better than speaking across the mountaineous terrain). There are also two cities in the North of Africa which belong to Spain called Ceuta and Melilla.

- You can see Morocco from some parts of the South of spain. In fact, it is so close, that your mobile picks up MarocTelecom from some beaches in Cadiz.

it's hotter there than here

lovely weather..

They are cruel bull-fighters

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain? lol. No really, look up Gaudi, you'll get some interesting facts about him. It really depends on what kind of project you are doing though.....

94% of the people are Roman Catholic. At least according to this website http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/Facts_about_Sp...

Try reading Ernest Hemingway's ,"For Whom The Bell Tolls", about the Spanish civil war.A brilliant piece of literature in its own right "(needless to say coming from Papa) but it will give you an insight into some of Spain's recent history. other than that , Spain is situated in Southwest Europe and has a wet Atlantic coast & a dry hot Mediterranean coast. It is dominated by a central plateau drained by the Duero Tagus , and Guadiana rivers. After the death of General Franco in 1975 Spain managed a rapid and relatively peaceful transition to democracy under the supervision of King Juan Carlos.Spain joined joined the E.U., in 1986. Eh let me think Population ,about 40 million ,Captital Marid, language Spanish, Galician ,Basque& Catalan.hope that helps a little . Good with your project.

it depends on your stance!

You could do worse than read
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain and
the External Links mentioned at the
end of that article.

Awash with brothels

Ferdinand Magellan portuguese explorer who traveled the globe and discovered some great landmarks was finianced by Spain.

Try going to Sispain.com or just search "Spain" on google or whatever search engine. TONS of interesting stuff!

"History of Spain" might also be a good place to start.

Spain is NOT awash in brothels...they are a very conservative country, and I'm pretty sure that Portugal financed Magelllen, so you had better research that one before you put that in your report.

See if you can't find some good, useable photos (not copywrited).

Barcelona beautiful city with some awesome architecture by Gaudi.

they drive on the right.
