Transportation?

Do a lot of people have cars in Ireland or are most people dependent on public transportation?

Thank you guys, this is so helpful! It's hard to find this info on the internet, there's nothing better than hearing from the people who live in Ireland!

Most families in Ireland have an average of about 2 cars per household. Irelands rail system only really links the cities, stopping at towns in between, but the national bus system makes up for this being decent. Dublin has a light rail tram called the LUAS , and a bus service, but traffic in and out each day is terrible. Cork, Galway or Limerick have no rail system, only buses. I personnally am reliant on my car for everything, as are alot of people I know.

Public transport? what PT in ireland there is hardly none. if you live in the country you have to have a car or there is no way to get around most ppl have cars....

transport is a joke here the only reliable public transport here is the luas

Most people have cars, life is not easy if you rely on public transport as the service pretty bad and expensive. New cars are quite pricey, so there is a very big market for used cars.

yep public transport is a joke! espacially if u live outside a city.. i live about 6 miles outside Galway and the busses into town stop running at 6pm.. craziness.. so people end up reliant on cars..There isn't even a rail connection between all the major cities in Ireland.. if u want to go to Cork from galway, you have to go into the Midlands and then go down south!! tis mad!!
