What currency should you bring to the Dominican Republic? |
What currency should you bring to the Dominican Republic? Good ol' American dollar's seem to be the currency of choice in the Dominican Republic. The prices in stores, gift shops, excursions, vendors, etc., are all given in U. S. dollars. american worth more pesos. Well they use pesos but you can bring your US dollars and exchange it most places accept US dollars anyway. US Dollars, Canadians Dollars, Euro, British pound, Swiss francs. Bring US dollars. It goes farther and is preferred. Just make sure you bring enough small bills. Some places may not have US currency to change for large bills and try to give you pesos. Pesos do not go far. Smile already given you the right answer. The other way is to Smart travelers will have pesos, know their currency exchange rate, AND speak enough spanish to know if you are getting the right price or the tourist price. Just remember, RESPECT goes a long way whenever you are away from home. U.S. cash in low denomination, for bigger items use a credit card Bring US dollars and change them for Pesos. NEVER use Dollars to purchase because they screw you on the exchange rate and they also screw you on the change at a bad rate also. If you are just planning to stay around your resort, dollars will be your best bet. Make sure to bring lots of $1 bills as they are usefull for tips at dinner or for the cleaning service. You can also buy almost all your other souvineers and stuff in dollars as well. Yes, they might try to cheat you on the exchange, but if the item isn't worth the price to you in dollars (you know what a dollar is worth to you), it probably isn't worth it in pesos either. We found that we could get pesos from the cash machine at our hotel if we needed them and we could even pay with euros with some vendors. |
