Should nonblacks get jail time for using the "N" word?

My brothers friend Traeshawn is doing 6 months for assaulting some guy who was using the "N" word. But he wouldn't of did it if he didn't over hear the guy saying the n word. A lot of blacks I talked with agree they don't want a fine they want jail time when someone who aint black says the n word.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech?
You cant lock someone up for calling names....i suppose its alright for a Black person to call a white person a honkey tho?

There should not be jail time given for using any "hate-speech". We are SUPPOSED to have freedom of speech in this country. If it is a word that some people can say, then anyone should be able to. All or nothing.

Only if black guys get jailed for calling me a "cracker" I will agree that it is a a derogatory term and I am sure is offensive to black people, but we do have freedom of speech in this country so jail is not reasonable, or a fine for that matter.

Look at it this way, if they person is ignorant and offensive then ignore them. By giving them attention you are only furthering their beliefs.

yeah, the "n" word is some what profane, but what about whitey, cracker, wop, shorty or any of a plethora of descriptive nouns. ******, blacks, African-Americans (Afro-Canadians?) seem to have no concern using the "n" word among themselves as evidenced by rappers, comedians and the like. other races can't use it because it is denigrating??? again, it has a host of demeaning connotations, but until those of African decent stop using it among themselves, the kiddies will pick up on it and use it. jail time??? look inward and cease and desist. as MLK said, respect for one's character regardless of ....if beating some one up is a sign of character, his message is lost.

well your brothers ignorant friend assaulted someone. he didnt have to assault him but he did and he is paying for it. why should anyone go to jail for saying what they want to. if you want someone to go to jail for saying a word why don't you move to a communist country.

I don't think anyone should get locked up for a racial slur, however if a person is bold enough to disrespect another person and be that narrowed minded. Then whoever whoops his *** should have the freedom to do so with out any consequences.

Ill put it this way, if a white person can go to jail for using the N word, than a black person should go to jail for calling a white person a cracker or whatever racial slur is relevant to any race.
Which would never happen, but i think anyone who uses a racial deserves to get his *** handed to him.

i hope not, im not racist but i think my generation freely uses the word and its not our fault its the medias. in school we use it freely between each other and as long as you give a word no meaning than it cant hurt you, its just a word dont let it get you mad. whenever i see one of my friends we say what up ***, i think it shows love

I don't think anyone should get jail time for using any "word" regardless of who you are. Trust me, if someone says something ignorant, they probably do it often and will bring some kind of drama their way eventually. No need to get the government involved.

He should have just ignored the guy and saved himself 6mos in jail. I would have been more pissed if he said it directly to me but if I overheard it I would have just ignored him. If we got put in jail for calling names everyone would be locked up!
