Should Mayor Kwame Kilpatric stepped down?

Mayor lied under oath...text messaging..cheating on his wife...perjury....

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his chief of staff lied about their relationship last summer at a police whistle-blower trial that has cost the cash-strapped city more than $9 million, according to records obtained by the Free Press. The false testimony potentially exposes them to felony perjury charges, legal experts say.

based on his name alone, yes.

Of course he should step down but that would take more of a man than he is. Him and the governor should both be TAKEN out of office. Not because of any one thing but because both of them have proven over and over that they are not capable of doing the job they were elected to do.

If that's accurate....yeah, Kilpatrick should do the city a favor and step down. If he doesn't, the city solicitor should take steps to remove him from office.

I do not think he should have to step down. Bill Clinton did the same thing and no one made him step down. I think there should be no favoritism. If one person is made to step down then everyone who commits the crime should be made to step down, and vice versa. I think he needs to pay by losing his right to practice law or something similar. However, if he is convicted or is made to step down when Bill Clinton got away with doing pretty much the same thing, it will become a race issue. Actually, I really do not know why everyone is surprised by what he did. I can look at him and just about tell what he is capable of doing. He is not good at lying and neither is she (his chief of staff). I do believe this need to be his last term. After all this, people would be crazy to reelect him. I do not want a Mayor that has been proven untrustworthy.

Step down or stepped on, either one will do.

Here is the problem with Detroit, the city elects corrupt crooks to be mayor and when they do not keep their promises, they still get re-elected.

Since Kwame Kilpatrick has been mayor, he has broken promises, Detroit Neighborhoods are in ruins, he spends city taxpayer dollars for himself, and he is just too corrupt like Coleman Young. If he was the mayor of another major city in the United States like Atlanta, Cleveland, or of a small town, he would have been recalled out of office.

The sad truth is that despite the fact Kilpatrick has lied under oath and cheated with his wife, most Detroiters in the city are going to view him as doing nothing wrong and if he was up for re-election tomorrow, he would still get re-elected.

I hope that in 2009, Detroit chooses a New Mayor to replace Kilpatrick. What Detroit really needs is a Republican Mayor because you cannot name me one Democrat (other than Dennis Archer) who has done Detroit any good since 2002.

Edit: Detroit needs a mayor like Richard Daley of Chicago. Mayor Daley is a Hard Worker who is successful at getting work done and he has been elected into office five times. Since Daley has been mayor, Chicago Prospers, tourist from all over the world come and visit, and Chicago could be the host of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

it's so stupid how the media is manipulating and crucifying this mayors term, and the citizens of the city of detroit are too stupid to see whats going on. the only other mayor that had this many problems from the stalking, harassing press was coleman a young, who politely told the media to kiss his azz.

since this mayor took office, the press and media in michigan has made it their daily waking routine to find any and all kind of dirt on him, and use it against him. i mean think about it; was the media so critical and investigative when dennis archer was in office? hell no. he was doing whatever they wanted him to. that's how detroit got a deficit of over $200 million dollars. but did anyone say anything about that? not even one "investigative reporter" caught that?

the media in detroit feeds on the ignorance of their viewers. why can't people see this for what it is? a witch-hunt.

the mayor should resign, tell the citizens of detroit to pay attention to the way the media treats the mayor who succeeds him, (but more than likely it'll be another puppet like archer), and file harassment/stalking charges on the media. i'm telling you...it's some tabloid type mess that's going on in detroit.

they managed to get bill out for getting head, now kwame is out for almost the same thing. hmmmmmm....

aman with an african first name and irish last name is already so woefully confused about life that he can hardly lead a city

Yes Kwama should do Detroit a favor and step down. He should also take responsiblity for his actions . Mainly he should pay the millions of dollars that the city paid for his legal fees when the 2 policemen he fired sued. HE should also pay the settlement out of his pocket and not out of the pocket of Michigan taxpayers. .
He committed perjury and should be held accountable.

It's time to clean house in detroit and it should start with Kwame and his mistress.

For people that know nothing about Detroit or its Mayor and compare his case to Bill Clinton need to ZIP IT!!!!!!
Hes done sooo much more than just perjury !!!!!!!!!

He steals tax money and fired police officers for investigating him when he covered up a murder!! They in return recently sued the city and won 9 million! He stole city money and bought a Navigator hes done so much!!! Damn thug only in Detroit would a thugh get elected maybe the people like that he is just like them???? Maybe thats what makes him electable!!!

Of course he should

Yes I believe he should he was caught red handed and among other things said by Unas A !! For y girl the difference between Clinton and Kilpatrick was that Kilpatrick was actually caught Clinton it was NEVER proven that he did indeed have a affair with Monica that is why they could not impeach him...

I really don't care who is sleeping with who, just as I did not care with whom Bill Clinton was getting it on with. They all do it, some just don't get caught. As long as they are doing their job that is all that matters.

The problems with Detroit runs deeper than just who is mayor. Must of the problems with Detroit are due to decisions by the city counsel. Everything must go through them first and they are terrible. I think they all need to be thrown out. Colman A. Young was the worst mayor there ever was. Mayor Dennis Archer would have been great for the city of Detroit, but again he couldn't get anywhere with the city counsel.

Until the city counsel members are gone nothing will change in the city of Detroit. Sure the downtown area might grow, but the surrounding areas will suffer. They do not care, there is not money in those areas. Detroit and Michigan as a whole have a long ways to go to recovery. I hope I'm here to see it.

I'd like to see him fired before he has the chance to resign! Now he is involved in another extramarital tryst that happened on Martin Luther King day in North Carolina!!!! The man has no shame. Read all about here:

"Sure the downtown area might grow, but the surrounding areas will suffer."

i agree with julene

No he should not step down because of who he has sex with. There has to be a line drawn to how deep in ANYone's personal life people delve.

It really is noones business. Does anyone actually think that what happens in the privacy of a marriage should impact the running of a city, state or country?

If you answer yes, then the next time Laura Bush yells at her husband because he forgot to put the toilet seat back down and he ignores her, should he step down because they are not communicating? Or because he is not honoring her wishes? Will this spill over to how he runs the country? No.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should NOT step down from his office of Mayor. He should dig his heels into the ground and stand his ground. If he does step down, what does that solve. Everyone is talking about the 9 million dollars. Does anyone think that if he steps down then the taxpayers will not have to pay the 9 million dollars? Come on!

Yes, and he should take Christine Beatty and Ella Bully-Cummings with him.

No I don't think he should step down. What I think is he should be jailed. For all the idiot mayor supporters, it's not about the sex scandle - it's the perjury, lying to the people, stealing city money in a hundred ways. He lies, cheats and steals (and possible involved in murder) - what a great guy. Don't try to equate it to private affairs only. And some moron stated he cost the tax payers 9 million, he should stay in office because if he's thrown out the city won't get the money back anyway???? That is the single stupidest thing I've heard in years.

Why step down? his personal life has nothing to do with the city

i think he should have stepped down quite awhile ago. strippers getting killed at his private parties, hiring his mother to work for the city, his little hoodlum friends in positions of power in the city, and now the text message scandal that is costing detroit millions of taxpayers dollars? the city could have used that money for improvements that it desperately needs. i am a lifelong michigan resident, and live within 2 miles of the city, and am disgusted at the mayor for what he has done. the only person i think needs to get out of office more is our Governor. well, and then theres the issue of the president....

although, these people are politicians, so why am i surprised?

I live in Detroit, and it's a messed up place right now.

The city is filled with people like Adiahuho and that's why thugs get elected to be Mayor in Detroit. Don't compare "leaving a toilet seat up" to perjury. He is an elected official and when you take a position such as Mayor or President, you give up your privacy. Period

He lied under oath and was caught. He made extravagant purchases such as the Navigator for his wife and trips to exotic places when the city was closing schools, police stations, and fire stations because it was broke. The city almost closed the zoo that had been open for 100 years. The aquarium on Belle Isle closed after 100 years of great service. All under him and his advisor's management.

The man is clearly incompetent and should step down. As far as the city counsel goes, they are absolutely stupid. Stupid is a very strong word that I use very often. It seems like every other month during a city counsel meeting, they get into fist fights or name call each other. Calling them very unprofessional is an understatement.

The city is at rock bottom and has been for years. Now, the suburbs are starting to suffer by the spread of ignorance. Look at surrounding cities like Warren and Roseville; they used to be good places to live and raise a family. Now they are becoming as bad as Detroit.

Step down Kwame. Let the surrounding cities have a vote at the City of Detroit's Mayor and City Counsel elections. Then we will see if we can save our great city.

Just my opinion.

They should boot him out !!!
He has done more than lying . he's a very nasty man & is so rude to everyone that's in his way.
I'm glad he's not my Mayor.
But the guy we have is so in love with himself no one can talk to him.
