Is detroit a nice vacation spot?

I'm looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of central New Jersey for a little while, and have heard good things about Detroit. i need some R&R. is detroit a good choice?

Youve heard good things about detroit? The only good things in d-town are: Red wings and Tigers. If you want to get hustled and busted, come to Detroit. Detroit? A vacation spot? Thats the funniest stuff Ive ever heard! LOL!

Detroit does have bad areas, but you just have to be smart about where you park, what hotel you stay at, don't walk down narrow dark alleys... its just common sense. yes detroit can be a nice vacation spot if you plan the right things. theres tons of museums and plays going on right now, and so much more. usually its very cold around this time but right now its mid 50's which is odd!
Also, you have to realize that Detroit is the number one most dangerous city in the U.S. but over 90% of the crimes commited are ones where people know eachother. like drug scandals or whatever.

Don't listen to the first two answers, they are morons, there is allot to do in downtown Detroit, and its just as safe as any other city in the US. they have the MGM, motor city casino, Greek town, lots of nice bars and clubs, some really nice hotels near everything, just as long as you stay in the down town area, you ll be just fine, and common sens will tell you were and were not to venture to.

I live about 15 miles south of detroit, There is tons of night life, and casions galore. don't let the bad wrap of the city fool you, the bad areas are in the suburbs, not in the downtown area, its on the water and its beautiful. Come check it out and see for you self.

Just some t-shirts I've seen. Actually, Detroit is only mildly worse than Philadelphia. I personally don't mind going to Detroit for business and I have a pretty good time there after hours, but I'd choose almost anywhere else for a vacation.

Yes, Detroit is a good place to visit in January because the weather is good (even though it is cold), there is plenty to do during the day time and in the evening, and it is not boring as some people say. Here are Ten Things you can do in January when visiting Detroit;

2. Visit Campus Martius Park.

3. Eat a the Hockeytown Cafe and/or the Hard Rock Cafe.

6. Take a Tour of the Rennasiance Center.

7. Visit the newly renovated Detroit Institute of Art.

8. See a performance at the FOX Theatre.

Most answers are stating that Detroit is a horrible city.
Don't judge a book by its cover. If you believe that its a bad city, go there, and look for your self. Then you can keep your opinion on weather you think its a bad city or a good city. Don't necessarily on by what the users say.

No, Detroit is one of the worst cities for crime in the nation. I would not reccomend it for a vacation spot in this day in age. Maybe with time, it will getter better, at least I hope it does.

Also, Michigan does not have the most pleasant winters. I wouldn't want to come here in the January for a vacation. Go somewhere warm!

unless you want to get robbed murdered car jacked or raped stay away from detroit someone needs to drop a bomb on the city and rebuild it i know i lived there for 30 years on 7 mile and ryan road

I hate the city of detroit i was passing throgh on my way to windsor my car quit in the middle of a downtown street the cops just laghed at me a tow company is refuseing to relese the car to a junk dealer (evan w the$ &title given to them)and when i got to the greayhound@ 3 am it was "closed" apperntly to keep out bums from the heat had to beg a gaurd to get in horrible horrible city

If your looking for R&R say out of Detroit. Find some place in upstate NY....a little cottage in the woods.
