In detroit, What's the safest area to be in? Maybe at night to have fun?

Is it greek town? Are the malls safe in detroit? Is it safe to be in detroit after dark?

Detroit pretty much shuts down at night. If there is an event going on, with lots of people around, then for the most part, it's about as safe as you can expect. But once everyone leaves, you really don't want to be alone. It doesn't matter if you're talking about the theater district, the stadiums, downtown or any other part.

On the south side of Detroit, there is the river. The east side way over by the Grosse Points is a little safer, about the same as any other U.S. city. If you want to get an idea of Detroit's west side, rent a movie called Four Brothers. And north side is pretty risky all the way up past 9 Mile Rd (8 Mile Rd is the northern boundary).

As much a reputation that Detroit has, it's really not much worse than Philadelphia, St Louis, or Los Angeles. That's not to say that Detroit is safe or good, just that other cities deserve just as bad a reputation.

Probably northern Detroit at a bar or a restaurant.

i would say most parts of downtown.

Alright don't listen to the stupid things saying Detroit is dangerous because it really isn't but for fun i would suggest going downtown. There are many clubs, bars, museums, art openings, and some shopping to do.

downtown and the theater district

Greektown is great, go to New hellas and the casino. 2 other casinos are good. You won't find much in the way of malls in the city, but the ones in the burbs are fine. And safety is like anywhere else, it depends on where exactly you are.

You could go to Dearborn which is on the outskirts and is pretty nice place to be.

Downtown it is very safe! The suburbs of detroit are bad! just like any big city. I live about 15 miles away from detroit in a very nice neighborhood, I'm so sick of hearing people talk about how bad the city is! Greek town is safe the whole down town area is, There are three major casinos, some of the nations greatest hotels, and wonderful resturants.

Greektown is safe, so is downtown.

In Detroit, the "safest place" doesnt mean its safe, so let that be said. Part 1 of your question: The safest part would probably be the farthest west end towards dearborn heights, but thats just a residential area. Part 2: Greektown area is the only area to do anything minus sporting events anymore. Part 3: Have had bad experiences at the mall at NIGHT. Part 4: If youre around a crowd, maybe people you know, youre fine, otherwise do yourself a favor and head out towards royal oak.
Detroit, a once reknown world class city, has become a rat-infested, steadily withering kind of ghost town, with a population once over 2 million now at only 900 thousand. Kind sad, really.

Downtown is relatively safe, it is like any other big cities be careful of your surroundings don't walk down ally ways by yourself, other then that go and have fun!! I frequent downtown often and have never been afraid!!

greektown is very safe, the malls in the surronding areas all have security staffs that keep their customers safe. The nicest mall is up on 16 mile/Big Beaver in Troy ... a sight to see: Gucci, Tiffany, Nordstrom, Mont Blanc, Williams-Sonoma are all world class.

A nice idea is to catch dinner at Greektown and then bar-hop your way over to the Fox for a show. A night to remember.

downtown is safe. the NEW MGM casino has i think 4 clubs & a few resturants inside! suppose to be great times
