What's an interesting fact or place in Denmark?

What's an interesting fact or place in Denmark?

To the other guy who answered. Neither pot nor prostitution are legal in Denmark. I think he might be referring to Holland.

However, there used to be an area of Copenhagen called Christiania that squatters took over in the 60s or 70s, and drugs were widely available. The cops recently stormed the place and cleaned it up completely.

Denmark is socialist government, which means that all schooling and medical care is free or almost free. As a result of this, taxes are very high - 40-60%.

It is the place of birth of the famous children's story teller, Hans Christian Andersen. In his honor, we have a famous sculpture of The Little Mermaid in Copenhagen.

It is the place of birth of physicist Niels Bohr, who won the Nobel prize in 1922.

It is voted the happiest country in the world. Survey done by Reuters.

Paid maternity leave is usually about 1 year for the mom, and 6 months for the father.

It's one of the few European countries that still have their own currency, i.e. did not accept the Euro when introduced elsewhere.

Paid vacation time in one year: 5 weeks plus 5 days is standard.

We're some of the tallest people in the world!

We have a monarchy in Denmark. Queen Margrethe II is currently ruling the country. She has two sons, of which the oldest will take over the country upon her retirement. Both sons are married (the youngest is now married to his second wife, which btw is a bit of a scandal since they're not supposed to get a divorce).

Uuhm - I can't think of anything else right now, but if you have more specific questions, please let me know..

Pot and prostitution are legal

The Little Mermaid, a statue based on Hans Christian Anderson's story. A definite must see in Copenhagen. Also, in Copenhagen, visit the Tivoli Gardens at night - a combination circus and amusement park. It's great entertainment and lots of fun for the whole family.

Whoever said drugs and prostitution are legal in Denmark is an idiot ... I think he/she is thinking of the Netherlands. Both drugs and prostitution are just as illegal (if not more so) in Denmark as they are in the U.S. or U.K.

As for an interesting fact ... Denmark has Europe's oldest continous monarchial dynasty (over 900 years).

Tivoli Gardens, Hamlet Castle and the food and beers are great
