Re-locating to Texas in May, be working in Dallas, but don't want to live there, single parent any ideas??

I am a single mom and want to find a good place for my child and I to live, never even been to Texas so any help is greatly appreciated. Also any info on daycare/preschool would be a great help, thanks :)

I recommend Frisco. It is a town just north of Dallas. It is a very good community for families. The crime rate is low. It has great shopping. The restaurants are great. The neighborhoods are also good. The town has about 95,000 people. A Forbes survey stated that Frisco was the 8th fastest growing suburb in America. This is obvious because in 2000, Frisco has 33,00 people. This is the community I would recommend but any town in the northern Dallas area is a good one. I do not have any information on any daycare or preschool programs. There are also a lot of beautiful churches in the Dallas area that are great churches. I recommend a Nazarene church. God Bless!*

AHHHHH!! I just answered a similar question to this, and let me tell you its making me jealous. I would love to live in Texas but I dont have the money to move, take me with you!! Im kidding, but live in Forth Worth, or at least check it out. It is very close to Dallas, is very pretty, clean, safe, great community, lots of opportunities for excitement and things to do.

And here is information from wikipedia.

Please check out this city you will not be disappointed!!!

Depending on where in Dallas you will be working, I would suggest Frisco, McKinney, or Mesquite.

You will be working in Dallas, but don't want to live there? Why not?

Dallas is a huge city. There are many nice neighborhoods in it that are friendly, clean, and safe. Considering that the Dallas-Fort Worth area is nearly 100 miles across, you may want to re-consider living closer to where you work. The city itself, without suburbs, is still 385 square miles in area. At 9,289 square miles in area, the entire metroplex is larger than the area of Connecticut and Rhode Island combined.

It's not uncommon for people to drive 1 to 2 hours *each way* between their home and work. This gets expensive very fast. There is almost no mass transit in Dallas, either, so you're likely to be stuck in your car in traffic jams every day. Considering you are a single parent, do you really want to be away from your child for up to 13 hours a day? Can you afford the child care expenses for when your child is not at school?

I'm lucky in that I only have to drive 10 minutes to my job. Most of my co-workers have to drive 30 to 45 minutes to get to work, and the same amount to get home. If there's a crash on the freeway, then it may take more than an hour for them.

Th 45 minutes each way works out to 1.5 hours per day. This works out to 7.5 hours per week spent stuck in traffic, not at work, not at home, burning gas and adding to the air pollution here. In the course of a year, this works out to 16 full days of their life in traffic, and this doesn't add in extra time for all the traffic jams. If you could get an extra vacation's worth of time each year with your child, would you take it?

Please do take this sort of thing into consideration.

Yes, do find a place close to work....at least in the beginning to get a feel of the outlay of everything. It's a big, sprawled out place!

Check out www.craigslist.com and click on Dallas,or whatever city your interested in.

Let me suggest Richardson to you. Richardson has a very good school district, good police department and it is close to Dallas but yet not that close.

My wife is a nurse in Dallas and she has never complained once about her commute.

If you need any more help I am a Realtor and can answer any questions you might have.

You may want to consider Grapevine or Euless.

anywhere you move to, you will have to fight the traffic if you choose not to live in Dallas, some of the suburbs to the north are good , as they are to the east, it is all about the quality of life for yo and your kids

Yes you can live anywhere on the outskirts even by the dfw airport is not bad. The Hurst,Euless,Bedford area is nice. I drive maybe 30 miles a day to work, but it is better than being in a congested area..:)

I've cobbled together some of my previous answers to give you some info, hope it helps.
there are small towns like Lucas within commuting range so you can have the best of both worlds. McKinney is less than 30 minutes from Dallas & is growing but still real pleasant, Lowry Crossing or Princeton are real short hops from there but offer nice homes not double-wides, on land, for great prices, like 1,900 sq ft on 1 acre for around $155k.

One of the best things with Cities in Texas, if you can work a schedule that is a little off the normal hours, traffic isn't bad. Living in the McKinney area gives you country living but short drives to all the amenities of the city. Dallas museums, opera, symphony, landmarks, restaurants, race tracks (dirt track, drag racing, TX Motorspeedway for NASCAR). Hospitals in McKinney, Allen, Plano, Richardson, Dallas: Healthsouth, Presbyterian, Baylor etc.
It is important to understand the difference between driving commutes in NJ/TX; if I work late the I can make the 27 mile route home from Dallas, in 35 minutes, w/o breaking the speed limit, as there are only 2 lights & 1 Stop sign. At rush hour I take back roads, 24 miles, yet still make the trip in under an hour, sometimes as quick as 45 minutes.

Helpful Texas sites below, some of the places are a ways from Dallas, like Galveston at 300 miles, but due to open highways that's only 5-6 hours, most folks think nothing of making a run like that for a 3 or 4 day weekend. Email me any questions:

Have lunch or dinner in the revolving restaurant on Reunion Tower
Mesquite Rodeo [inexpensive fun, good food there, go early]
Medival Times puts on a heck of a show.
Magic Time Machine is the only place I know of where they'll bring you more rolls, to continue a food fight w/another table.

You're moving to a great area & you will find that there is plenty to do & see. Just don't listen to the whiners that complain about everything. I resided here for several years before learning about cool things like tubing the Guadalupe, Galveston & the over 100 State Parks! Don't wait, enjoy!

Do rent first, then you can make an informed decision. A lot of people by little homes on tiny lots because that is what they are used to. But in the McKinney area, for example, you can get 1,900sf on an acre for around $160k.

I Googled "McKinney TX apartments rent" just to get some links like those below; Allen, Parker, Fairview, Murphy could be substituted for McKinney to find more. Overall, nice apartments can be found for under $700. a month & the costs of living are lower, especially if you stay outside of Dallas county. I would also suggest, for living, he avoid the west side of Garland & all of Richardson, both of those towns are sliding.

Hello, I hope I can be of some help. I have been working in Dallas for six years and lived there for four. I moved to Tarrant County two years ago and love it. The cost of living is more reasonable. I knew nothing about TX when I moved here but with the inter-net you will be just fine. Map quest helped me until GPS came along. I don't have any small children but once you get here you will have a better outlook on finding care for your children.
