My bf and I are seriously thinking about moving to Dallas so visiting over SB...where should we go? |
I'm trying to get a good feel of what the area is like--housing, jobs. I'd also like to get a taste of the social life for young professionals. What are some places we should definitely visit while we scope the area out? Lucky you, Dallas has more shopping per capita than any other city in the United States. So you should check out the Galleria, Stonebriar Centre, Grapevine Mills, and Northpark Malls. In addition to these, there are tons of shopping centers that have tons of small shops, chain stores, and boutiques. That is your social part. Housing, I would recommend visiting a realtor's office and checking out one of their publications and then checking out the neighborhoods. I recommend the Frisco area. It is a very safe community and tons of shops. I also recommend that you check out the restaurants. There are tons and they are great. Don't know about all of them but most are. It's too bad you aren't coming in late September or October because you could have gone to the Texas State Fair. Also, while you are here you must do a little bit of tourism. So, check out the art galleries/museums, the shows, the operas, the concerts, The 6 Floor Museum, The Conspiracy Museum, The Dallas World Aquarium, The Dallas Holocaust Museum, one of the zoos (Dallas or Fort Worth), The Texas Motor Speedway, and list continues on and on. You will love Dallas.* I'm not sure if you means downtown, or in the area. The downtown is absolutely lovely, and much more spread out than the cities I was accustomed to. Parking is cheeper too. If you means the suburbs, well, stay out of the neighbouring Irving if you can!! Certainly don't stray there after dark unless you feel assured of your physical prowress. Las Colinas is gorgeous, and worth a visit, though if everyone tells you about their Mustangs, they're not really that impressive. They're a number of staties of mustang horses, and not worth the trip. Downtown, the Dallas Symphony is exquisite. http://dallassymphony.com/ Tickets can be a bit pricey. The Crow Collection of Asian Art is beautiful - and free! It's also right across from the Dallas Museum of Art. http://dallasmuseumofart.org/Dallas_Muse... I disagree about Las Colinas. It's very modern and sterile with no character, but that's a very subjective opinion. They tried to create a "Riverwalk" feel with bars and restaurants and think all they ended up with was a Wendy's. (I used to work for a company that was located at Williams Square on North O'Connor) well as far as social life it depends on what your looking for the uptown area is nothing but single young professionals. it could get pricey but its affordable you may have to look a little harder. north dallas has a huge apartment community and isnt as pricey as uptown. |
