Are credit cards widely accepted in Cuernavaca, Mexico? If so, which ones would be the best ones to carry?

I'm going to stay in Cuernavaca for 3 weeks. Where are credit cards accepted as a form of payment? Would a Mastercard be a good credit card to carry?

Yes they're accepted ... but only in large stores and hotels. You're better off to go to an ATM machine and get cash ... that's what everybody else does. Mexico is a cash economy.

I never have a problem with VISA debit or credit. Some ATM machines will warn you they are going to charge you about $.70 for the transaction. Others like Banamex don't charge. You should see a seperate 1% exchange fee on your monthly bill.

Large grocery stores like Sorianas have ATM machines but mostly just the banks. There are also 'casas de cambio' that exchange money ... you'll see many at the Mexico City airport. Their exchnage rates are usually good.

Master Card, Visa, AMEX ... probably any major credit card except Discover. Discover isn't too widely accepted abroad yet.

Yes, all of them are accepted.

just about any credit card is accepted, just be careful. it is better to have cash, there is too much corruption in mexico.
